Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau Saga.
Beau, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am #1 African Artist on the Planet, Creator of AfroHop I believed in my philosophy of making the present pleasant in order to make the future a gift. I was first stimulated physically through basketball being 6’6; it was sort of expected. I went as far as to play on my men’s basketball team in college. When the chapter for basketball came to an end, I found myself at a crossroad.
I was in need of an alternative method of stimulation, which led to me having to reflect on who I was, seemingly finding my true identity. I was born in the U.S. through the origin of my family is from the Ivory Coast. My mother and father, Fatoumata Kone and Adama Zombra have never been shy on introducing me to the customs of our country. In the Ivory Coast music is used to liberate one from the pain life may throw at you. Being the first generation American in my family, I was able to see life through multiple lenses. Essentially this is how I was introduced to the disconnect that the barrier of language can inflict, and how one can feel social awkwardness being in a room full of “mixed backgrounds” even though we all can trace our roots back to Africa. I found this to be a common problem among the new gen Americans and sought to make a difference.
I started making music with my friends that I grew up in the Bronx with to express our personal growth. These were the same guys I was causing trouble in the streets with since Pre K. We named our music group o51 Elites because we believed we were elite in elevation. We believed that a man can be himself and successful no matter the environment. Hence, we used music to project that message to the world; it was a lot of fun. While making music with the elites, I realize I can be the solution to the problem and comfort for those in need.
I decided to retreat back to Georgia for the same reason I was sent by my mom the first time. Only this time it was my decision. I came to get away from the distractions of New York. I was a man with a mission: to create a sound that will blend the cultures together and won’t get tired.
This is why Beau Saga and the creation of Afrohop was birthed. I created Afrohop by tapping into the cries of the people. We all shed tears and it is those tears that I embodied in this new genre Afrohop. The sounds of traditional African music and original sound of Hip Hop infused into a fiery rhythm for the world to dance too; for everyone to escape to, fantasize, dream and imagine. That way the people can keep hope alive. I have a lot of people in Africa, the Americas and around the world counting on me.
Blessed to play basketball and track in high school. I was quite popular which enabled me to network in Atlanta with those who were in the areas I knew my business would need. I first made sure to find one designated studio I would complete my first Afrohop project titled “Saga Way”, which led to me working among the best in Atlanta, Bravo Ocean Studios. They have definitely welcomed me with open arms and is now like my second home. In addition, I collaborated with RTC Visuals, Avatar.oda and Flacko Films for my visual content. They are a huge part of the support team in Sagacity. I believe it takes a village to raise a child, So there are much more people that I have to thank.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This lifestyle can seem entertaining to the eye, but one must give up a lot of gems. In short, everything starts with knowing who you are. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon and I always considered myself a diamond in the rough. I haven’t had anything handed to me; I went out to obtain the things I dreamed for, which I am still jumping hurdles today to make it happen. Life is simple, doesn’t mean its easy. I’m definitely staying out of trouble, staying focused so I can remain financially stable to do things I need to do, meeting the right people at the right time to establish those relationships and friendships with those who can help aid me to the next level.
Remember, “Each man creates their destiny; each man creates their Saga”.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am my company President Beau Saga owner Sagaway Publishing and Sagawear apparel. I am an independent artist, so I have to have my hands on a little bit of everything, from marketing the act and the music to booking the gigs, putting together the press kits, sending out the newsletter, and even reviewing the contracts. When it comes to Sagawear, I’m actually the one coming out with the designs printed on all of our merchandise. So far, my wow moments have been the shows that I’ve been getting booked, the rate that I have been progressing, and meeting and working with Afro b.
I believe the style of Beau Saga set me apart from any other artists out there. I feel that what I create and put out, and the way it impacts people just hasn’t been done before and I believe that’s the main attraction. Plus the legacy of Afrohop is bigger than me. Its a for the people for the future generations in music.
What were you like growing up?
I was always an outgoing person an adrenaline junkie, which led to me trying my hand at a variety of sports, from basketball to track, and aggressive incline skating constantly striving to push my body and myself to my utmost limit. As I got older, music began to have a deep impact on my development as well, finding myself naturally inclined to dance to musicians like Michael Jackson, before moving on to become a musician myself. Having grown comfortable in the competitive spaces, I strive to encourage love and the beauty in overcoming one’s fear while maintaining the heart of a fighter shaped by their experiences in battles.
