Meet Becky Shanks of Presents of Mind Hypnosis in Midtown Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Shanks.

Becky, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist. In 2012, I used hypnosis to quit smoking. As I returned to full, waking consciousness, I thought to myself, “I could do that,” and I never smoked again. Six months later, I stopped binge-drinking, got very clear in that I am here to help others, and decided to go to hypnotherapy training. I began to completely overhaul my life using the subtle power of hypnosis.

In 2013, I got attuned to Reiki, a Japanese healing art, which allows for greater, deeper connection to the energy (Rei) in, and around all life (ki), also known as Chi or Prana. When this energy is flowing freely, the body exists in a state of balance and well-being. When the flow is disrupted, people experience dis-ease. I shared Reiki with my Self, my cats and parrot, and watched our relationships deepen and expand. As my hypnotherapy and Reiki practices developed, my intuitive gifts gradually became apparent, which enhanced everyday life, as well as sessions with clients.

As I practiced, meditated, and engaged with Reiki energy, my understanding of the subconscious broadened. I recognized that most, if not all healing modalities, to include Reiki and other forms of “energy work,” meditation, aromatherapy, sound and touch, all effect positive change by accessing the powerful state of hypnosis, as well as deeper, more expanded states of consciousness. In mid-2015, one of my group hypnosis participants introduced me to sound healing by way of crystal singing bowls.

I attended regular sound meditations, which included the angelic, ethereal sounds of crystal singing bowls, as well as various chants and song…. I fell in love with the hypnotic sound of the bowls, and became the voice in a trio of sound healers: I wrote and led guided meditations while two other women played bowls, drums, gongs, flutes, a harp. In August of 2015, I bought a set of healing grade Tibetan chakra bowls with the intention of incorporating sound into my practice, and immediately began hosting solo bowl meditations at Balanced Fit Life in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta. I also I play with yoga teachers and a monthly women’s circle.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been a smooth sail for me! I started my small business, and began hypnotizing clients as soon as I received my Master Hypnotist certification in 2014. I steadily, and simultaneously grew my hypnotherapy practice while working 30-hours a week as a government contractor. By the end of 2015, I felt confident enough to completely disconnect from corporate America, and venture out on my own. Today, I am fully supported by my thriving hypnotic healing practice located in Midtown, Atlanta and Athens, GA, and I could not be happier!

Presents of Mind Hypnosis – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Over the course of the past year, I have nurtured a partnership with the Hope & Haven Initiative, a nonprofit developed to help people manage all forms of PTSD. At this time, I enjoy playing Hope & Haven’s library of Crystal Tones singing alchemy bowls.

My hypnotic healing practice blends singing bowls, Reiki, and my voice to create completely unique, deeply healing, hypnotic sound experiences. As singing bowls effortlessly guide the mind into hypnosis, I use suggestion, guided imagery, intuition, and intention to encourage the body to enter the optimal state for healing. From this place of deep relaxation, known as “theta” to practiced meditators, I gently guide or direct the inherent power of the subconscious mind to seamlessly align the lower (human) and Higher (Spirit) Selves; I lead people on sonic journeys into the Self.

Overall, my practice encourages people to relax; to effortlessly shift old habits and patterns that no longer serve the Highest Self. My work is a wonderful option for those who are managing chronic physical, and ongoing emotional pain, as sound soothes the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical bodies, while suggestion shifts the energy behind subconscious patterning.

Generally speaking, I offer hypnotherapy, Reiki, sound healing, and a combination of all three at Heart Space Atlanta; I provide personal and group sound healing sessions, and help people develop meditation practices. I help people manage anxiety, depression, stress, anger, grief. I help them let go, move forward, and most importantly, I teach people how to use the inherent power of the mind to embody their full potential and live the lives they’ve imagined.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I have experienced great success in my practice! One story that stands out is that of a client who thought he’d ruptured a bulging disc and was experiencing great pain…. I asked him to come see me so I could flow Reiki, play bowls, and give him suggestions. He obliged, and after working together for about an hour, this man was ready to skip out of Heart Space.

I reminded him that the discomfort still existed in his body, and that he was now relating to the sensations in a whole new way: he had learned to create the experience of peace and comfort using his mind. The next day, he visited an orthopedic surgeon regarding his back. The doctor was surprised my client was able to walk into the appointment unassisted; he told the doctor his hypnotherapist had taught him to turn down the discomfort with his mind… the doctor asked him to keep it up because, ultimately, my client shouldn’t be able to walk at all.

Mind is POWERFUL, and so is my hypnotic healing practice.
