Today we’d like to introduce you to Berkley Martin-Lynn.
Berkley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I was always deeply involved in the arts. Starting with an easel in my bedroom, I would paint abstract, pop art-styled paintings, which lead to me taking very few professional lessons in painting. From that point forward, I was doodling, singing and performing for anyone that was willing to endure it. By middle school, I had discovered the art of digital photography. I was gifted your standard digital point-and-shoot, and I took it with me everywhere. My subjects started with nature and landscapes around the neighborhood, and that eventually evolved into portrait photography by high school. At age 16, I acquired my first DSLR camera and from that moment forward, I had solidified my love for photography. Photography has been my preferred medium of art for the last twelve years, though I did take several different art classes throughout high school such as art fundamentals, sculpting, painting, drawing, photography and theatre. It wasn’t until the last several years that I started to involve myself in other mediums of art once again. My primary focuses as of now are acrylic pouring, miniature sculpting, block carving and printing, and fine art photography.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
At a very young age, I understood that life was not really a “smooth” road. I have experienced a lot of tragedy, trauma, and unconditional love throughout my life. All of which has defined my interests, my personality and especially my art. My twenty-four years of life, so far, have been as tragically beautiful as one can imagine them to be, and I am so thankful for all of the intensities I’ve experienced thus far. My art is ever-evolving because of these instances, and I am happy that I will never settle into a specific niche or medium of art. I am just desperate to simply create and to share my interpretations with the world!
Please tell us more about your art.
Among my peers, I am best known for my photography, and I can say that photography is definitely what I am most proud of. Though, I do hope that one day the public will recognize me for more than just my photography. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I am not just interested or deeply involved in one medium of art. My sculpting, my painting, my printing, and my illustrating mean just as much to me as my photography. I enjoy being able to share and sell prints of my work as well as commission sculptures for people.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue to travel and document my findings through photography, as well as practicing many more mediums of art.
