Independent artist Black Kenn was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. Growing up, music was always around but all he dreamt of was becoming a star basketball player. He dedicated himself to becoming the best player he could be throughout high school and college. His dreams of being that hoop star was unfortunately blocked and was only left with his second love; music. Linking up with his best friend, Gustoo as the producer, Black Kenn the artist was born. Freestyling and rapping became second nature to him. Like his gift of basketball, he dedicated himself day in and day out to his music growing and evolving over time. Giving listeners an out of this world sound with a blend of trap and hip-hop flavors, Black Kenn is looking to make his unique style of music go worldwide! Outside of music Black Kenn is also a hard-working entrepreneur currently doing business in the Hemp and Wine industries, looking to his goals and aspirations into fruition. Sharing the message that just because one door closes doesn’t mean another one won’t open.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
What’s a smooth road? Haha! Seriously though, most definitely has had to overcome many different obstacles such as laptops crashing, another one getting stolen, working with people that don’t have your best interest, losing money as well as friends, man, the list could go on. The music industry can be tough to crack into especially with people selling false hope and lack of knowledge, but through these trials and tribulations, I was able to grow. Instead of settling for failure, go even harder to better the craft and put that energy into the music.
Please tell us about Icy Spicy Worldwide – what should we know?
I am an Artist who is known for my smooth wordplay and providing good music with Rap/Trap/R&B vibes. What sets me apart from other artist is that I am not afraid to be me. I have my own unique style and I am not trying to fit in, instead, I’m working to carve my own lane in the game and staying true to me. I’m in it for the longevity so if it takes a longer period to receive credit I’m okay with that, it’s better than the quick overnight success that doesn’t stick around over time. Something that I specialize in is that I am a wine and cannabis connoisseur and these are things I stand by so I infused it into my music as well. Music, wine, cannabis, and anything business-related is what I am all about, and you gotta be different in order to stand out!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe being genuine and staying true to myself has been the characteristics that have been the most important to my success. Especially living in a world where most things are fabricated and look good on the outside looking in. I believe keeping it real will take you way further than trying to fake it til you make it. Just keep it a 100 with me!
