Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Ellison.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was introduced to music when I was very young and fell in love with it instantly. I grew up singing in a church so gospel music was my foundation, but behind closed doors, I couldn’t help but listen to the smooth sounds of R&B. It wasn’t until last year that a few of my close friends were able to convince me to pursue my own music career dreams because it was something I’ve always wanted to do. It was a process physically and mentally getting back into music but it was the best decision I’ve ever made. December 2018, I finally released my debut LP titled “Dark Liquor” and is now available for the world to hear and it’s the best feeling in the world. I also recently released my second project titled “The Happy Chemical” produced by Atlanta producer BizzieMade (who also produced majority of solo LP) in May 2019 which is a Collaboration EP with my dear friend Darranie (who is featured on my personal favorite song “Swing My Way”). I’m now on the path of exposing my music to a bigger audience as well as some behind the scene executives. My goal is to be a music icon by creating my own lane and staying true to who I am.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I often used to compare my life to any road in Atlanta, hard and bumpy. Nobody could have prepared me for the struggles of being on your own in your early 20’s. Your adulthood is constantly being tested, you’re experiencing the struggles of bills and education. And on top of all that, you’re entering the stage of being in real love but experiencing real heartbreaks (some more than others). There isn’t a year where you’re not learning more about yourself and the elements that make you who you are. We all know being broke and making the bare minimum wasn’t enough to survive by yourself, so I most definitely struggled. At the time, I couldn’t possibly think about pursuing music and trying to stay afloat in life. But I believe in a God that can work miracles, and the more I stay humble, I see the direction He has me going and I’m so grateful.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an R&B singer and songwriter and my artist name is “Bellis.” I write songs about pretty much anything but I find myself more so writing about heartbreaks and headboards of my life. I am most proud of the amazing feedback and responses people have shown me after listening to my music. Since the release of my debut LP, I have had some amazing opportunities presented to me and many doors are continuing to open. The support has been completely encouraging and I finally feel like I’ve found my passion. My sound consists of classic 90s R&B vibes with a splash of the diverse music we have in today’s music and it definitely sets me apart from other artists. I grew up listening to a lot of Atlanta musicians such as Monica, Usher, Xscape, all the way to Skooly and OutKast. My music is heavily influenced by the variety of talent that comes from right here in Atlanta, Georgia. I remember listening to “The Quiet Storm” on V103 as a child with all the hope in the world that one day, that very same station will one day play my own music. The music they played fed my soul and gave me feelings that only good music and vibes have the ability to do, I’m currently recreating that era.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My humbleness and authenticity is the key to my success. A life lesson I carry with me is that success comes from hard work. Throughout my journey, remaining true to myself is a quality I strive to always keep because I’ve fought so hard to love and accept me for me and I refuse to act or be otherwise.
