Today we’d like to introduce you to Breana Jeanfaivre.
Breana, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for photography and capturing the happy moments between my friends and family. It was something that I never seriously thought about pursuing because I was in school to become a nurse and the thought of having a full-time job and trying to become a photographer all just seemed too crazy for me. It wasn’t until last May when my husband surprised me with my first camera that I considered the idea of being able to do both; be a nurse and a photographer! I spent a few months educating myself on everything I would need to know; editing, booking, posing prompts and more. I found myself deciding if I would have the time to do both of the things I love to do. I finally took the leap in September and booked my first session, which ended up being a surprise proposal.
From that moment, I knew that I had the potential and the eye to grow this passion of mine into something bigger. I first started off booking little sessions here and there of my friends to help build my portfolio, but as my portfolio grew, so did my inquires! And now here I am, a full-time labor and delivery nurse as well as a part-time photographer, I did it! I am still amazed at how far my little side gig as gotten me in a little less than a year and I cannot wait to see where this next year takes me!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wouldn’t say that it has been a smooth road, but it hasn’t been as bumpy as I would have thought, either. Getting the courage to finally put myself out there as a true photographer has been the hardest part for me. Atlanta is saturated with tons of amazingly talented photographers and I always doubted my abilities to be part of that community. One day I just ripped the bandaid off. I created an Instagram platform for my work, along with a Facebook page and a website, and I just did it. I put myself and my work out there for everyone to see. The response was slower in the beginning, but right now, I feel that I’m in a great place for booking & creating these amazing relationships and memories with my clients.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
This business is not something I ever imagined in my wildest dreams of becoming a reality. I love what I do because I get to meet the most amazing people who are just so in love, so happy and so kind. The best part of my work is getting to create relationships with those soon to be moms & dads and those couples that just want to run around and show off their love. I wouldn’t put myself in a specific category of who I like to shoot because I love to do it all! I love to capture the moments between a newly engaged couple, soon to be parents, families & their children and even portrait and lifestyle sessions for all of the boss babes out there. As a labor and delivery nurse, I always find the connection is strongest between my maternity clients and me. I get the chance to put both of my passions together & portray my passion in these beautiful photographs.
I am most proud of my ability to connect with complete strangers and make them feel totally comfortable behind my camera. It is so apparent when I’m sitting at home and editing each and every session, that my clients are comfortable and that I was able to provide the prompts to allow for beautiful photos that show their true selves and true love stories. I believe that making your clients feel like there isn’t a camera pointing in their faces and telling them what to do, is the number one element of creating amazing photos and that’s what I love to do. My style of photography consists of those warm, moody tones with natural light and capturing my client’s authentic selves. My ideal clients are those that like to be adventurous and run around in an open field or hike in the mountains and get a little dirty. I’m just there to capture the memories!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
This business has totally taken me by surprise every step of the way. Every week, every inquiry, every session sweeps me off of my feet, so my plans for the future are unknown right now, but that is okay. I am in such a happy place with my business and my life, that I am just taking each day is it comes. I love to promote mini sessions, which has been extremely successful this far, so I think that offering more mini sessions is definitely something I will be adding to my to-do lists. My main goal is to continue growing and continue capturing these beautiful people of Atlanta and sharing their stories. I am really looking forward to where these next few months take me & are super excited about all of the wonderful people I will be meeting soon!
