Meet Brent Crowe of BackBeat Sound Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Crowe.

Brent, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a musician for most of my life, but I never had the opportunity to do any real professional quality recordings because pro studios were just too expensive. I recognized an interesting gap in the market – there are very few recording studios who offer a great quality product at an affordable rate. So, I dove in and started my own, geared toward providing professional sound quality at an affordable price. That’s a product that sells itself, because almost all musicians of any genre would love to get a professional grade recording, but very few can afford it, so they come to me! I don’t make a ton of money doing what I’m doing, but I enjoy it. And most importantly I get to make a difference for artists, allowing them to fulfill a dream they probably thought they’d never have the opportunity to fulfill because of budget constraints!

I started BackBeat Sound Design 3 years ago out of a spare bedroom in my home. Growth has been steady enough that I’ve expanded into a much larger, dedicated studio space. I stay pretty busy, working with customers of all genres and all talent levels!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been bumpy at times. Some months I see a ton of customers and can’t keep up with the workload. Other months it’s the opposite. Keeping a steady pipeline of work has been a challenge. It’s been an adjustment figuring out how to balance the really busy time with the really slow times, while still being able to keep all the bills paid. Keeping up with a constantly changing, growing, and advancing industry can be difficult as well – there’s always something new to learn!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with BackBeat Sound Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
BackBeat Sound Design is a full-service recording studio. We primarily handle recording, mixing, producing, and mastering music. But we also do songwriting, audio restoration, non-music audio services, and a variety of non-audio work such as graphic design and website design.

We’re definitely known for value – customers who have worked with other studios tell me that our rates are the best around for the quality of sound that we provide. And that’s something we’re very proud of!

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta (and by extension, Chattanooga) has such a thriving and ever-growing rap and hip/hop scene. There’s always someone new breaking out, making the next hit, or getting on the national radar. It’s great working with some of these young, fresh minds. And it’s exciting to think that any one of them could realistically be the next big thing!

Everyone hates Atlanta’s traffic – I’m no different!
