Today we’d like to introduce you to Breonna Alexander.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been interested in the beauty industry. When I was in middle and high school, my mom did not allow me to wear a full face of makeup, only gloss, and mascara. I always wanted my lashes to pop! Lol. My business started with me doing makeup (still a big passion of mine). My mom was always my model, I would do her makeup before any event she went to. I started investing more and more into makeup and promoting myself, just doing makeup was not enough I wanted to add another service but I was not sure what that should be. I began to research and really dig into the beauty industry. That’s when I came across lash extensions!! I was too excited, I thought I could teach myself. Little did I know being a lash technician is a very tedious process and you must be consistent. I attempted to lash some close friends and family members it was horrible. I was using the wrong type of glue, tweezers everything! I cried. I had to take a step back from it until I got the proper training from a professional. I searched for months (literally) until I felt secure enough to pay for a lash course. I had to ask my dad for a loan to pay for the class, but that was only the beginning. Some women think once you take a course you immediately become skilled and start making money. Wrong!! It took 5-6 months and hundreds of dollars of investment before I even started booking clients. I wanted to give up so many times but friends and family kept me encouraged. So, here I am about a year later and my progress is amazing. I have met so many amazing women and have had so many personal conversations while lashing. I would not change my Process and journey at all. The beauty industry is where I belong makeup artistry and lashing is only the beginning.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely! Not. Being in this industry you got to have tough skin. Some women did not want to book me because I didn’t have enough followers or because I don’t work with celebrities(yet). The biggest challenge I faced was people not wanting to pay me.They thought just because I was new to lashing I should just give out free sets and free fill-ins. I kept pushing though I didn’t let those tough moments stop me. Consistency is key in this business, I never stopped promoting myself and also knowledge is power the more you learn about your field the better you can run your business
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lashedbybre__ story. Tell us more about it.
The first passion is makeup I love doing making women feel beautiful. I get the same satisfaction with doing lashes as well. I proud of the fact that I started my business from the ground up no one wrote me a check and told me to go for it. I had to take baby steps and set goals and pray. Clients get a different vibe from me because I’m not in this industry for the money. I actually care if my client is not satisfied I’m not satisfied!. Word of mouth can be your best or worst enemy in this business, I work hard to give my best to each client.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the beauty industry changing drastically more and more everyday. The millennials are taking over for sure, we don’t want to be Makeup artists, nail techs , lash technician and so on the side. We are making this our full time careers, I see a lot of hustle and drive in my age group. Ten years from now I see beauty bars or lofts scattered around Atlanta . But all of them being successful establishments because of their own unique approach and vision.
