Meet Brian Hampton of Dress Like A Gent in Mableton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Hampton.

Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I originally started the blog in 2014, which was an extension of my pre-existing @DressLikeAGent IG page. Initially, the purpose of the page was to showcase various modern classic styles for men as well as virtu-styling clients by phone, email or videoconferencing. The day that I posted my first two blog posts to my readers on IG, about 15 minutes later, I got two invites to do written collaborations for two established digital-based men’s magazines. Needless to say, I accepted and have since had about 50 + articles published to other sources outside of what was published to DressLikeAGent.co. To date, Dress Like A Gent has become a noteworthy media outlet which provides pre and post media coverage for various social gatherings, local foodie brands, fashion and philanthropic events and more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been a pretty smooth ride. Mainly because it is all self-managed and I’m a big proponent of praying and keeping God involved. He never steers me wrong.

The only challenges I’ve had would be meeting deadlines on publications or making sure that those who collaborate with me such as photographers, co-bloggers or videographers are on the same page to avoid extensive delays in finalizing projects. Typically, when you find the right industry partner and they understand your vision model, it just makes the experience a lot more stress-free!

Dress Like A Gent – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Dress Like A Gent ™ is lifestyle media blog that focuses on helping gents develop their own personal style by showcasing various elegant styles and relevant fashion trends. Dress Like A Gent ™ is also a noteworthy media outlet which provides pre and post media coverage for various social gatherings, local foodie brands, fashion and philanthropic events and more. Some of my published work can be found via Urban Lux Magazine, Alliance Française (Afatl.com) as well as ‪Fashionado.net‬, Kontrol Magazine and more.

I’m most proud of the work I’ve done meeting and interviewing other established creatives such as Mary-Cathryn Kolb and Tosha Hays of Brrr! where I had the opportunity to visit their workspace, meet their designers and publish their amazing story. This is just one of many great opportunities I’ve had as a journalist.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe Atlanta is one of the most opportunistic cities for creatives and business-minded people. This city is very forgiving believe it or not. You can start off not knowing what to do or how to do it, connect with the right people, get mentored or be the best self-taught out there. That’s sort of how my story goes.

I believe every place is what you make of it. It’s not necessarily the city as much as it is the need to be ambitious and to never stop pushing! Eventually, if you persevere, it will happen! Whatever that “it” is for you.
