Meet Brian Lamont

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Lamont.

Brian, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mother was always into fashion and she seemed to dress me very well, too. Coming from a small town in North Carolina, I never really liked the small town mentality but always chased bigger dreams but wanted to move after undergrad. After moving to Greensboro and having obtained my Bachelors from UNC-Greensboro, I then moved to Washington DC and attended Howard University. DC, particularly HU, is known for influential, posh, and generally black professionals. I loved the experience here as I interacted and attended events, I noticed the influx of creatives and how events in the surrounding areas like Philly, Delaware, and New York. I met two guys from NY while I was partying in DC, who became my close friends. I started visiting them once a month and each time I made sure it was business and fun. After I graduated from Howard and started working into my field, I also had strong interests in wardrobe styling. I started blogging with DCWKLY (better known as MVEMNT), writing on fashion and entertainment. With the experiences, I started receiving invites to DC related shows and pitched myself to NY fashion week shows.

Later I developed clients and elevated to Hot 97s: The New MVMT. Though a bigger platform, I still didn’t feel like I made it yet. I made it in my mind I would meet bigger and better people. I have attended shows like LaQuan Smith, Stevie Boi, Phillip Plein, Walk Fashion, Style Fashion Week, etc. In addition, I’ve made ties with Cardi B’s publicist Patientce, Claire Sulmers (founder of Fashion Bomb Daily), Krystal Garner (Rapper T.I’s Management Team), many actors/actresses, famous designers, talented stylists, and many bloggers. I have attended Essence Festival, BET Awards, BET Hip Hop Awards, and Grammys. I later started being a contributor of The Rap Fest. Though I’m still working an 8-4, I’m making path in fashion and entertainment by consistently attending shows, being red carpet correspondents, and being invited as media to private events. I now have my wardrobe business registered as Brian Lamont, LLC.

Has it been a smooth road?
The struggles were having an 8-4 and having people say I am confused with my life because I have a degree in Social Work but pursue fashion. The consistent income versus inconsistency but living in my passion and can reach my highest potential.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is a registered LLC and I specialize in wardrobe styling and personal shopping. Clients are able to book me for special events, galas, award shows, birthdays, and many occasions that require you to look good. From head to toe, I am able to pull looks from designers, department stores, and showrooms. I work with artists, influencers, tv personalities, and pageant girls. I’m more proud of my growth that my business has progressed and looking forward to the success ahead. What sets me apart from others is my craft and patience with each client.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is an awesome place to grow as an African American. I’ve done business there many times and a lot of influencers and celebrities make ATL home. Though I live in DC, Atlanta is like a second home. DC needs to learn from Atlanta and how well connected and interconnected they are with each other.
