Meet Brittany Hardy of The Hardy Clinic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hardy.

So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a Georgia native. I attended Georgia Southern University, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Development. I earned a Master of Family Therapy degree at Mercer University’s School of Medicine. I currently attend the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where I am pursuing a Doctorate in International Psychology with a concentration in Trauma.

I began my career as a therapist at a local counseling center and psychiatric hospital as an intern. I was offered a position as a social worker at the same facility. Due to my work ethic, I was able to work in over four departments at the hospital. My skill set became so advanced; I was later appointed as Director of Clinical Services at the hospital. During my tenure as director, I managed to decrease the turnover rate in the department, developed more individualized documentation, created an additional department that helped manage patient’s needs, and improved the hospital’s treatment program.

While working over the years, I have also completed various trainings to improve my clinical skills. I completed training as a STAR Behavioral Health Provider, in which I am certified to provide therapy to veterans, active service members, and their families. I am also certified in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and have expertise in trauma therapy to treat individuals dealing with PTSD. I have experience supervising bachelors as well as master level interns, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, and social workers. I am currently working towards becoming an AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy) Approved Supervisor.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth but the bumps in the road were necessary. I have had issues with depression and anxiety myself. A fellow therapist and medium told me that “Anxiety and depression occur when we don’t live in our purpose. When we fight against what we are meant to do or be who we are supposed to be, then we cause ourselves to be confused.” Through my struggles, I have realized the lack of trust I had for myself. My intuition has always been there and I am finally at a place where I can listen, comprehend and practice patience. I have to remind myself that I have accomplished so much in these short 33 years of living. I try to verbalize what I am grateful for daily which helps to put things in perspective.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Hardy Clinic – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I founded The Hardy Clinic in 2018. It is one of my most proud accomplishments to date. We are a counseling practice that provides psychotherapy to individuals, families, and couples. I specialize in premarital counseling, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and work with young adults and millennials. I have an amazing master’s level psychologist Shaunda Jones on staff. Shaunda has experience working as an adjunct professor, case manager, trainer, and project coordinator. She currently serves as a Lead Therapist at a local psychiatric hospital. Shaunda specializes in trauma counseling as well.

Starting this month, all counseling services will be available mainly online. I believe therapy should be available to everyone and by connecting online people can access us from all over Georgia. A new law was implemented and therapists in Georgia are able to provide online therapy to residents of Georgia as well as other states including Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Nebraska, and Missouri.

I believe the best thing about being a therapist is being an integrative part of my clients being able to live a more fulfilling life. As a family therapist, I specialize in providing treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, family conflict, and premarital counseling. I am known for creating a special bond with clients by making them feel comfortable enough to open up during therapy. I excel at building a rapport with clients within the first few sessions. I am more of an experiential and narrative therapist. I also use more of a person-centered approach with clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta. I was born here in the city at Grady Hospital. I love how the city is diverse and has a lot of opportunities for people of color. I love the atmosphere and energy here. I like that the city has a lot of events and there is always something to do.

I don’t like the traffic but I typically know the times to avoid rush hour traffic.
