Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Scott.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As all women do when pregnant for the first time, I read many books and articles about the “Do’s and Don’ts” of pregnancy. One rule stuck out, “…discontinue use of anything that contained salicylic acid because it was not safe during pregnancy.” But, of course, all of my facial products contained this (as most do because it helps clear acne). As a first time, soon-to-be mother, there was no way I was risking the health of my unborn child – so, out they went!
I started researching natural oils, cleansing agents and butter that would not only cleanse my skin but keep it moisturized and glowing! I started making facial scrubs and moisturizers for myself. And you know what? People started to compliment me on my glow and youthfulness. So, when asked, I would make the products for other people. And after four years of extensive research and finding out what works best with different skin types… the Skin Society Company was born!
The Skin Society Company is dear to my heart! I love being able to help people of all ages with skin issues without all of the harsh chemicals. My products are all natural and they are effective! I am creating new products regularly to accommodate each and every skin type or concern out there.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! When I was first starting out, some of my products had a few defects. My soap wouldn’t lather, my butter was too oily, my scrubs were too dry. It took a lot of trial and error on this journey! I even used my family members as “testers,” so that they would give me their honest and unbiased opinion. And believe me… they had no problem letting me know what sucked about my product! 🙂 But, it was all out of love and in the end, it was for my best benefit. I truly appreciate them for that!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Skin Society story. Tell us more about the business.
The Skin Society is a natural and chemical-free skin care company. I handmake all of my products right in my kitchen. I often have customers that contact me about certain skin issues they may have and need something specifically created for them. I take their concerns, along with my research on what works best for various skin types and create a product just for them! What sets The Skin Society apart from other companies similar, is that this company takes pride in not using chemicals in any amount, for any reason. It is safe to use on all ages, even teenagers and children. My daughter Hayley is six years old and she uses a lot of my products. I do not have to worry about her skin being subject to anything harmful or toxic. Knowing that I own a company that is true and honest in every sense, will always make me feel proud to do what I do!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
As far as luck, I don’t really believe in it! I think that all things happen for a reason – if it’s meant to be, it will be. Things that have happened in my life and business, both good and bad, have molded me into who I am today.
