Today we’d like to introduce you to Britton Wright, Leslie Thomas II, Bryan Samuel, Josh Thomas, Trevor Floyd, and Brandon Moe of 212 Sqwuad.
212 Sqwuad, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
212 formed officially on February 12, 2014. It started with six friends (two brothers) in who all were music majors at the same college, Columbus State University. We started with one guitarist, one saxophonist, two trumpeters, a multi-instrumentalist, and a DJ. 212 went through the natural growing pains of a new band as each of the band members graduated separately. The decision was made to continue the band even post-graduation. As the band aged, we gained a new friend with a new instrument, Britton (Bass). With the addition of bass, the band gradually changed into what we have now. 1 Saxophonist/Vocalist, 1 Trumpet/Poet, 1 Trombonist/Rapper, 1 Guitarist, 1 Bassist, and 1 DJ. We are currently going through the trials of recording and producing our first album which will drop later into the fall.
Has it been a smooth road?
We’ve struggled to find a consistent drummer. We’ve also struggled, but are having some success, with mastering all the organizational things outside of playing music.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with 212 Sqwuad – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a band and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in creating, playing, producing dope music. Each of us have our separate areas of specialization outside of that as well.
Josh (Trombone) = Body Builder
Leslie (Saxophone) = Motivational Speaker
Bryan (Trumpet) = Spoken Word
Trevor (Guitar) = Fitness Coach
Britton (Bass) = T-Shirt Company/Entrepreneur
BMoe (DJ) = Up and coming soca DJ
This separates from the typical band. We actively encourage each other to get the most out of their passions inside and outside of the band. We don’t limit each other to only being good at what we know.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
BEST:
The overall creativity and spontaneity of the city. Everyone seems to have their own take on expressing their art and usually is pretty positive about sharing it and collaborating.
LEAST:
The traffic
