Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruna Costa.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Brazil in a small town in the interior of Bahia called Araci. I came to live with my parents and my sister in the city of São Paulo when I was only one year old.
And like every child I always drew a lot, the difference between the others kids is that I grew up loving to express myself through art.
In 2013 after finishing a free course of Theater that added a huge experience artistic in my career, I started studying Animation Design at Anhembi Morumbi for two years. I drew my entire life with only pencil and paper, my first contact with digital art was in college in 2014. I am currently a freelance illustrator living in São Paulo.
Please tell us about your art.
I love creating custom illustrations of people. And in them bring my interpretation, my look at these more varied traits, different shapes of body and face, different shades of skins and hair textures. And bring different people that we hardly see being portrayed. My entire creation process is digital from the sketch to the painting.
Lately the stylized portraits is what I have produced more, because through them I want to generate an income that can help me to lead in parallel some of my personal projects that I intend to put into practice this year, because there is a long time they are stored in my heart drawer and are in need/pulsing to take shape and create life.
It is a Project that I am still making feasible as I will accomplish because it demands time, space, dedication and much production that will involve everything I love and inspire me, which is to illustrate, dance and act. With this project, I want to inspire, instigate people to think and arouse emotions, but also leave people free to make their own interpretation from that creation.
There are many things I want to learn and explore in the art world. And that encourages me a lot, and I want other people to be infected with that good feeling as well.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
We live in a time where there are many talented people producing amazing things all the time, and in this scenario, we enter into a vicious cycle of over-comparing ourselves with the trajectory of others, and we often believe that we have nothing to add. And in this path of low self-esteem and mental overload, we end up paralyzed and losing valuable time to develop and look at our own trajectory and artistic career.
It is a daily challenge to focus on our own process, to trust in yourself, and to manage time wisely. And create this balance between developing personally, improving the art, publicizing the work and being able to support itself through it and also taking care of itself, of our psychological, but I believe that the main thing that helps us to stand firm is to have confidence and to believe in what we are doing, I know it is not an easy task, I struggle with it every day.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am currently in most social media, but I update Instagram (@brunacosta.art) more often with finished art and showing my process. People can support my work by ordering something, or if they can not buy anything at the moment, they can follow me on Instagram, enjoy, comment and share also placing the credits. This is a great help because it helps my work reach more people.
