Today we’d like to introduce you to Bruno Rose.
Bruno, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Charlotte but raised in Chapel Hill, NC. I grew up in a household of five kids that for most of my youth was taken care of by my mother, who worked hard to give us all the best chance to succeed. Some nights I went with her to her second job, as a cleaner, and other nights to her third-shift job delivering newspapers. She truly was and still is an inspiration. She supported me with any decision I made, and when I told her I wanted to be an actor, she supported me as best she could. She’s the reason I knew I could become whatever I wanted. So in middle school I got my first one-liner role in the school play. The next year, I was Aladdin in Aladdin Jr. The musical. From there, I did theatre all through college.
Before signing with my talent agency, STW Talent, I interned for the Wilmington Film Commission and Emmy Award-winning Fincannon and Associates Casting agency. I graduated from UNC-Wilmington with University Honors and double majors in Film and Theatre, with a minor in French. I was also in the Delta Sigma chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha, a fraternity, in which I started to learn many skills, as Vice President, that would help me to create my own company from scratch.
Over the past few years, I’ve booked Co-Starring roles on major networks such as ABC, AMC, CBS, NBC, HULU, NETFLIX, and supporting roles in theatrical films. A few notable shows I have been in are Halt and Catch Fire, Insatiable, Raising Dion, and The Act. Some of my film credits include Stuber, The Bobby Debarge Story (TV One), and Jumanji. Before COVID-19, I was set to film my first National TV commercial for a sports-good store but it was cancelled like all other productions across the country.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP. When I’m away from the camera, I am busy co-owning and managing a Pet Concierge (dog walking, pet sitting, and Grooming) company in Atlanta, GA. Thanks to a successful start, Pack Leaders ATL will be heading into our third year in Atlanta! Every day I get to interact with different people in the local community and make sure close to 200 dogs and cats are taken care of. I co-manage a small staff, have embraced all the highs and lows of being a business owner, and I love it!
My end goals: Buying my mom a house, and starting a youth center for arts, entertainment, and music, so other underprivileged youth can have the support to know that they can achieve their dreams too.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In the acting world, it’s nothing but rejections. You’re probably rejected at least 90% of the time, but when you book a role… it’s an amazing feeling and the experience makes it all worth it. Just moving to Atlanta after college was rough. I was working at Urban Body Fitness in Midtown, which is an amazing local, yet perfectly outfitted gym, but once I fostered a dog, I knew starting a dog walking company was the way to go, and now it’s a full-fledged Pet Concierge machine.
With business, it’s very difficult to establish your business correctly. Some people can afford to pay lawyers and other people to do it all. For me, it was a lot of research and attempts to do things correctly. I’ve learned a lot along the way, and probably could have done some things better, but it’s been a wonderful crash course in business. This isn’t the only business I plan to open, so this experience will very much be worth all the hassle.
Please tell us about Pack Leaders ATL.
Pack Leaders, ATL is more than just a Pet Concierge company. We are a community of pet parents, pet care professionals, and of course, our furry friends. With the pandemic going on, we’ve had so much support from everyone in our Pack. I love being able to see our Pet Parents everyday, getting to know them, and of course, I love the time we get to spend with their pets.
I’m most proud of the success we have made in less than three years. All of our staff members really care about animals, and knowing that our pet parents have full trust in us is a great feeling. We really want to change how animals are cared for. We hope to continue raising the bar in pet care standards do that all pets, whether under our care or someone else’s gets the care they deserve. We continue to educate ourselves and our staff and pass the knowledge on to our pet parents as well. Our care for our community and pets is what sets us apart. We’re trained, licensed, insured, and very reliable. I think all of the wagging tails are proof of that!
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was shy and reserved. I didn’t share much with my family or friends. I kind of stayed to myself, but there would be bursts of personality as soon as I got on stage or front of a camera. I was very interested in creating my own MySpace backgrounds for my music persona. I wrote and recorded songs all the time. I think I finished 30+ original songs by the time I graduated high school. I also loved video games and staying up late to watch Kobe Bryant and the Lakers play all the time. Oh and I was, and still am, a hardcore UNC fan. It wasn’t until I came out that I really began to let my family and friends more into my life and personal life.
