Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan “Harvest Blaque” Hancock.
Born and raised in Roanoke, VA, Bryan “Harvest Blaque” Hancock is an actor, Slam poet and musician who infuses the sounds of old school hip-hop with blues and rock undertones. His acting credits include “Tuned Out T.V.” and Showtimers production of “12 Angry Men”, Hollins Playwright’s festival “Pheramones”. He is currently a cast member of The Big Lick Conspiracy Comedy Troupe. Harvest also is the Host/ Curator of the bi-weekly poetry show Soul Sessions. For six years, Soul Sessions has been the peaceful, creative hub for all walks of life. Soul Sessions is an open space for one to let their soul be free and their voice be heard through open mic poetry. We are housed in Morning Brew Coffee located 110 Salem Ave SE Roanoke, VA.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I live in an area that is big on bluegrass & country music. Hip-Hop is my heartbeat and my band and I are trying to make our mark. We recently won a WigWam online Radio Award for best Urban Artist in 2019 but locally don’t really get the respect that we’ve gotten abroad. I do appreciate our following at home but some people in our town of Roanoke, Va treat Hip-Hop like it’s a dirty word.
What else should our readers know?
We specialize in making music and producing a live hip-hop band with a sonic blend. We feel like no one has our sound matched with heartfelt lyrics. In this era of Hip-Hop you don’t hear a lot of originality and we have it!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, there are things that we do or not do. Make opportunities happen and plant seeds of hope while building positive bridges. Tell those genuine loving people your dreams and keep your circle tight.
