Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Roberson.
Bryan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Memphis, TN. I’m a deejay, photographer, curator and creative. I started deejaying in high school. I went to college at Middle Tennessee State University. While at school, I started an entertainment group, called G2, we threw all the big college parties. I also started doing photography while in college. After college, I moved on to curating art and creative events. I have an event called Kodak Kickback. It’s a photo shoot party. People and their friends can come to hear good music, have good drinks and food, while taking photos with various photographers on backgrounds that we create. I have an event called Art Haus. This event is centered around showcasing the works of various artists around the city. I also have an event called Jam Session. I blend ecletic styles of different deejays as well as a live band. All this had led me to start a brand called V$NR. The brand is also the name of the magazine that I created. The brand focuses on highlighting different artists, musicians and creatives that are pushing the boundaries of music, art, fashion and our culture.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride, but it’s been a fun ride. With all that I’ve done, it’s pretty much been me taking shots and learning as I go along. I didn’t know how to do any of the things that I do, but I’ve figured it out along the way through hard lessons and trial and error.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’ve mostly known for being an all-around creative. I deejay events. I shoot portraits and campaigns for different artists and brands. I curate and design the magazine that I created. I do design work as well for others. What sets me apart, I believe, is my style and attention to detail. I’m all about creating and community.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment up to date would have to be me releasing the first issue of my V$NR magazine.
