Meet Caleb Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Wright.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Caleb. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m an Inspirational speaker and Extreme Execution Life Coach from Richmond, VA. I work within the sports and education arena on identifying personal superpowers, improving team dynamics, and maximizing individual potential. I currently reside in Norfolk, VA where I’ve partnered with Norfolk Memorial Library and Eric James (Owner of Touch A Life Academy) in our efforts to serve youth from South Norfolk, VA, through inclusive programming centered around character development, interpersonal development, life skills, and exposure. As I’ve traveled and interacted with people in different states and cities, I’ve realized that people’s behavior is reflective of what they’ve been through, the environment they’ve lived in, and who they interact with. Understanding this unspoken truth, I made it my mission not to allow my past to define me, think beyond my current circumstance, and surround myself with people of character and integrity.

Before graduating from Norfolk State University with a degree in Mass Communications, I realized I wanted to do more than just graduate and work a traditional 9-5 job. I desired to be fulfilled by my purpose. At the time, I had no clue what my purpose was due to football consuming my vision and plan for my life. Until one day, during my undergraduate years, I was afforded an opportunity to be a Resident Assistant at my university. Due to this, I was exposed to gifts and talents I was unaware of through peer-to-peer mentor groups, campus-wide programming, and male development initiatives. Years prior, I mentored and coached teammates and youth, but having the opportunity to be the keynote speaker at conferences, hosting interactive activities at numerous conferences, and leading workshop presentations was unheard of. As a result, I figured I would start my own consulting company Wright Inspiration, to inspire my generation to be game changing through their actions.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am where I am today because of God, family, and my faith. Regardless of the situations I’ve encountered, I made it through because my Father God was with me, I had a strong support system, and I never stopped believing in myself. Due to coaches and mentors speaking greatness into my life and the 14 years of football, I believe in the concept of no man was pulled up by his bootstraps. We are all standing because of who crawled before us. “I am because we are.” The team is more important than me. These principles were installed in me by my mother and father, Tasha and Willie Wright. My journey has been far from smooth. From moving often, to being the new kid on the block, to discovering my purpose in life. It has been challenging, but the most rewarding.

During my adolescent years, I faced many personal and academic challenges that led me to ultimately achieve the bare minimum due to the constant change of my environment and the lack of outlets to express myself creatively. After constantly getting into fights at school, acting out in class, and barely passing classes, my parents decided to put me in organized sports. Since the age of 8 years old, I have developed valuable life principles that I still live by today, such as, “Finish what you start”, “Do whatever it takes”, “Practice makes Permanent”, and “Team over me”.

As the years progressed, in 2013 I was afforded the opportunity to play collegiate football at North Carolina Wesleyan College. In 2014, I transferred to Norfolk State University. For the first time, I had to do life without the sport that helped me cope with it. Accepting the fact of not playing football anymore was one of the hardest things I had to do, but I always promised myself that the day football felt like a job, and I stop loving the process I would stop playing. Loving the process protects you from being paralyzed by the fear of the unknown because anything can happen to you and if you don’t properly prepare in love, then you are preparing to fail.

As football left, my desire to discover my purpose came. At the time, I went through everything to find it except for myself. Through failure and success, victory and defeat, highs and lows, I realized that the answers to my questions lie within me. You save time, pain, and energy when you face yourself and stop using people, places, and things as a means to be distracted.

Please tell us about the company.
Wright Inspiration is the name of my company, but most people know me for the work that I do on social media. Wright Inspiration is a consultant company that focuses on inspiring people to be game changing through their actions. We actively serve youth and young adult athletes through our signature coaching program C.H.A.M.P.I.O.N.S. We believe that change comes from self awareness, mental growth, and behavioral awareness. I use my personal life experiences to inspire youth and young adults to strengthen their character, honor their gifts, be ambitious, become a man, discover and live within their purpose, stand in integrity, maximize the opportunity, control the narrative, and embrace success. I also assist people in discovering their superpowers, gifts, and talents while overcoming internal and external factors.

I’m most proud of our willingness and efforts to impact and inspire generations of people to embody change. I’m also proud of the people and institutions that value and support the work that we do to influence the next generation to be game changing.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory was the times that my family came to visit. I remember always having a great time, listening to music, laughing, playing games, and eating food. In those moments, I felt genuine love. Moments like that are priceless, and they come and go quickly. The only reason I’m able to remember those moments is that when it was happening, I lived in that moment. I didn’t think about yesterday or tomorrow. I lived in the now.
