Meet Candace Dove of Paint Party in Midtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Dove.

Candace, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m 28 and I am a Freelance Artist/ Art Instructor/ Entrepreneur. I have been drawing since elementary school. I was the kid that doodled in class and excelled in art classes. Although I had a natural talent, I refused to take art seriously until my junior year of college. You know what people say, “Artist don’t make any money.” That stuck with me for years. Finally deciding to pursue art was the best decision of my life! While in college, I began working at a well-known paint and sip studio. I fell in love with instructing classes. I stayed with that company for three more years after I graduated. In 2017, I decided that I had outgrown the company and I needed to pursue my passion my way. I started my own mobile paint and sip company Paint Party and I have been living in my purpose ever since. Realizing what my passion is has taken me far.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There has definitely been some bumps in the road. Learning who my customer base was, buying supplies, making contracts, and managing money was and still is a learning process. In the beginning, I didn’t see a lot of profit and that would be discouraging to most, but my passion keeps me going. My customer’s love for me keeps me going. I can’t thank God enough for trusting me with Paint Party.

Please tell us about Paint Party.
Paint Party is a mobile paint and sip company that services many communities. We go to homes, businesses, churches, and etc. We teach children and adult painting classes. I love that we specialize in helping people create memories and masterpieces together. I believe being mobile and bringing the party right to our customers sets us apart from the rest. I am most proud that Paint Party services many communities including urban communities. I’ve seen firsthand how minorities are treated by larger paint and sip companies. I am proud to service them and help them have fun and enjoy each other right in their own homes or venue of choice.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
The only thing I would do differently is hire more people sooner. Having a team is important. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together!
