Meet Candice Cunningham of Candice C Fitness in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Candice Cunningham.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was in college, I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I remember living in my sorority house and waking up and being really stiff and in pain when walking down the stairs. I told my father then the next time I came home I went to his doctor, and then was diagnosed.

This was definitely not a great time in my life but it later went on to be a blessing. I graduated and started work in Finance (as my degree was in). I was never happy though, I realized I wanted to help people. I had recently started working out for myself and was really starting to see real benefits to my health as a result. I had always been a little cardio bunny but never really implemented strength or resistance/functional training, however now I was and seeing the difference. Over time I started to see more and more helping people with health and fitness is what I wanted to do. I wanted people to find relief from things in their lives through it.

I left my corporate job and started work as a personal trainer after getting my license. I worked at a variety of different gyms and fitness studios over the first few years, I helped start a very successful fitness app and ended up finding my place and home at a boutique personal fitness studio in Buckhead called the CYB Method. I have been there for over three years and now have dived deep into helping women specifically. I am specialized in pre and postnatal corrective exercise and I am also a Corrective Exercise Specialist through The Biomechanics Method. I work to design programs for clients that help them correct imbalances they already have and to help prevent injury as they progress through a strength and/or conditioning program specified to them. I also have online-based programs to help people wherever they are.

My ultimate goal is to reach as many people as I can and help them see their best versions of themselves. Not only through fitness but through mindset and lifestyle changes. It is not a one size fits all approach and I want to help everyone see their potential.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
When I first started out, figuring out where I wanted to go, the direction I wanted to take with personal training. I knew I wanted to help as many people as I could with fitness that is not just super high-intensity workouts but finding what works for them. Also in corrective exercise. I worked at a variety of gyms and studios and none really clicked with me until I found the CYB Method as our approach is one in the same. It was also challenging going from a steady income to nothing guaranteed. It took time to build up where I am today.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Candice C Fitness – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in women’s fitness and health, corrective exercise to help people overcome pains and imbalances to move better and feel better. These things also help them if they have goals to add more tone or lean out as they are more efficient with their workouts. I am specialized in pre and postnatal corrective exercise as well so I work with a lot of moms and moms to be.

I am most proud of the approach clients receive when working with me. They don’t just get workouts but they also get a plan to do on their own. They have goals laid out every three months and they can see specifically what we are going to work on during that time, they can see their successes and failures which helps motivate them to know what to do over the next month or so on. My clients also become more like friends, I feel like they know they can trust me, they can vent to me, they know I am there for them. They also learn the importance of balance and not going to extremes. I feel like a lot of things you hear about health and fitness are extreme mindsets nowadays, doing all super intense workouts, or removing entire food groups in order to lose weight. Balance is what a healthy lifestyle is in all aspects of life.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I hope to grow and reach even more people. I am working on growing my online based business currently and dream of traveling and speaking on women’s health and fitness and overcoming obstacles down the road.
