Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassandra Worthy.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Cassandra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, mine has been a seemingly meandering journey (aspiring pediatric neurosurgeon turned chemical engineer turned Corporate Executive turned Founder, CEO, and International Speaker. BUT in truth every step has been on purpose…whether I was conscious of it at the time or not. Today I’m so very grateful to maintain PURPOSE at the conscious center of my every day. And it absolutely rocks. I’m grateful for every experience and connection that has brought me where I am today.
How I started? It’s a great question. In fact, for me it always begins with a question. Life and all its wonderful mysteries fill me with child-like awe to this day. As a child, I questioned those mysteries internally and externally. I strongly believe math and science chose ME because of it. I found in math and science tools to explore those questions, those mysteries in the world. This quest, my insatiable curiosity, and love of knowing led me down a path of science and math. My earliest career aspiration was a meteorologist…less for the science involved more for the POWER to know when a tornado was going to hit before everyone else. I was terrified of storms growing up. Eventually, after overcoming that fear, I allowed myself to be inspired by Dr. Ben Carson. This was about the 4th grade. I saw a black, well-dressed man walking on a stage getting these accolades for a scientific feat…successfully separating Siamese twins at the BRAIN. In that moment, I made the decision to become a pediatric neurosurgeon.
I maintained those aspirations until sophomore year at Georgia Tech. It was at this point that I allowed my curiosities to drift within myself: Why did I want to become a pediatric neurosurgeon? The rationale I had as that 4th grader didn’t hold up as a sophomore in college. So I switched my major to Chemical Engineering and never looked back to medicine.
I would spend the next 15 years working in the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry the majority of that time at Procter & Gamble holding various leadership positions. I traveled the world, helped solve highly complex problems, met tremendous people, and introduced a few breakthrough innovations to the market. But throughout those 15 years, there was always this whisper, this intuition, that grew louder and louder over time that working in Corp, holding more traditional Corp executive positions was not how my natural talents and gifts would be best shared with the world.
So it was during my last three years working in Corporate that I began pursuing those curiosities. I began exploring those natural abilities for which I was so often complimented: energy, enthusiasm, resilience, positivity, authentically motivating, articulation, and communication. It was when I began walking in pursuit of those curiosities, what has today culminated into my purpose in this life experience, that a path rose up to meet my feet.
Over the past three years, I have built a well-respected Corporate Speaking and Consulting firm targeted at nurturing enviable organizational resilience. I have married what I gleaned from a 15-year Corporate career including many years spent in the M&A space with my natural talents and gifts.
I’m so grateful to now travel the world sharing my message, energy, and perspective with clients from nearly every industry vertical through keynotes, workshop facilitation, and consultation. Today I live every day on purpose and it’s incredible.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? Come on! Definitely not. And I’m grateful for that fact. I know I would not have achieved nearly the level of authentic success I enjoy today if the road had been nice and smooth.
My path has been rocky. And I’ll be honest and say most of the rocks along the way were my own two feet. I have a knack for getting in my own way. While in Corporate, I spent many years drowning out that whisper, that intuition with the spoils of a high-paying Corporation position: drinking. And I got REALLY good at it. For me, it didn’t result in performing poorly in my work…much to the contrary. I did very well. But I never felt truly fulfilled. It wasn’t until a DUI scare and my making a conscious choice to embrace sobriety whole-heartedly that I was able to hear my intuition every single day.
Once I could hear it clearly, I began picking my feet up instead of tripping over them. It really enabled me to begin my entrepreneurial endeavors in earnest. And becoming a full-time entrepreneur has been as exhilarating as it has been challenging.
I was juggling two careers the last year or so while still in Corporate, excelling in my ‘day job’ while building a speaking and consulting firm ‘on the side’. It was difficult. But what made it worth it was the certain knowing I was pursuing exactly the purpose for which I am meant. In that pursuit, I actually began having more fun in my Corporate work.
I strongly believe in the pursuit of authentic success, the road is rarely smoothly paved…but it’s all for a reason. It’s in the hardships, in the challenges that we have our biggest growth spurts. Every single challenge along the way is there to SERVE us, to TEACH us, to give us an OPPORTUNITY to flex and build our resilience muscle. This mentality actually runs through the very core of Change Enthusiasm®, the unique strategy of my speaking and consulting firm.
So for me, it’s been a road littered with not rocks but opportunities and I’m grateful for every single one.
