Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Law.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started off blending Broadcasting with Journalism as a freshman at the CW Post (now LIU: Post) campus and radio station located in Long Island, New York. As head of the Urban Music section of our campus station, WCWP.org, I had an opportunity right out the gate to bring fresh talent to the forefront of not only our campus but the entire Long Island.
Maintaining a radio show on various nights throughout the week, spear-ending events through the WCWP station, emailing fellow, early-developing content creators, artist management teams, learning how to handle budgets and understanding the knowledge of what radio promotion can do – I was going 100 miles an hour at only age 18.
From promoting artists and brands on-air and on early stages of social media, I began playlisting records on iTunes and through the Inner Circle blog sites. From there, blogging started to become a major need in-terms of artist development. Merging all my outlets into one, We Are the Inner Circle was formed.
Along with my friends and business partners, Mac Victor and Chris “You Know HD” Ortiz, we maintained a status quo for always “Making Records & Breaking Records” when it came to not only the underground and independent, but those accessible celebrities of mainstream fame of which relationships were maintained through great business practices.
As of now, We Are the Inner Circle has traveled multiple times over across the U.S. delving in festival work such as SXSW in Austin, Texas, A3C in Atlanta, Georgia, and right in our backyard of Long Island with countless live performance placements such as the Garden Party, the Earwaxx Sessions, and many more networking opportunity.
You Know HD is still rocking the circuit in Charlotte, North Carolina as one of their premiere DJ’s over the last two years, currently a mainstay at Club Onyx. As for myself and Mac Victor, we are both prominent in the event production space, me working in Atlanta while Mac works in New York. Transitioning from curating and working showcases and performances to being the one to put the entire physical being of the event together (such as decor, incentives, brand activation’s) has been a task that I would ask for 100 times over.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, then again nothing in my lifetime ever has been no matter what road I take. Some of our key struggles was budgeting properly. Living fast at a young, early age, you don’t understand some of the ideals and practices some of these bigger corps take in to make for long-term saving.
As we got older, having more will power and stronger discipline helped shaped a better business acumen.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the We Are the Inner Circle story. Tell us more about the business.
My company has specialized in artist development, promotions, and event production since 2014. We have helped put spotlight on some of the brightest up-and-coming artists and brands from not only our home region of Long Island but across the United States. Some artists have blossomed beyond all of our eyes into platinum-selling artists with hits on hits, while others have hung up the brass mic and traded in their raps for more stability; this is something we can’t argue with because everyone has their own trials and tribulations to conquer on this journey to wealth and stardom.
I am most known for being the face of the brand as well as the puppet-master of a lot of the plays made in the years. Between hosting our live shows, booking acts for our shows, paying for acts, promoting acts, servicing records, coordinating press runs, I have juggled every hat there is in this business before 26. Some great, some good, some decent, some bad, I have experienced almost every variety of bumps in the road with my lane of work, but still I feel my team and I move more calculated than our peers even when we are at our least “relevant.”
Some of our most proud accomplishments as a company was always being ahead of the curve when it came to what talents were “next to blow.” From interviews with the likes of DeJ Loaf, Chinx, Young MA, UFO Fev, Dave East, and many more recording artists – we put emphasis and spotlight on who was to be sought after in this business for years to come.
What sets us apart from others is our ability to be personable and reasonable with clients. Sometimes that is a detriment, but we are human and everyone has situations that arise in their lives but we do have to be smart about them (thank you Usher).
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has been on my side more times than not, so for that I keep praying and counting my blessings because at any moment I or the entire team gets ungrateful in this game, that higher power can certainly take back what he gave.
