Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandi Marsh.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Chandi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I came to Atlanta in 2016 when I first started college at Clark Atlanta University. I now attend Savannah College of Art and Design where I major in animation. Since I have been living in Atlanta, I grew as an artist a great deal.
Has it been a smooth road?
My journey has not always been smooth but because of my mom’s positive outlook, I never really knew that my journey had obstacles. I just thought all the bumps in the road were just apart of life- which it is. I definitely did not grow up in a financially stable household and was even homeless a couple of times throughout my childhood. My mom taught me that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, you just have to keep going until you get there. Nothing can hold me back and anything that I set my mind to gets done. I don’t even know how I am able to do most of the things I do, but I take whatever opportunity comes my way.
Please tell us more about your artwork, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am an animation major at Savannah College of Art and Design. I am an artist and I specialize in 2D and 3D animation. I am currently trying to grow as a stop motion artist. I am also a model and started out as a member of the AUC Agency at Morehouse College in 2016 and I am now a member of SCAD models where I have received training from Miss J Alexander. I am most proud of my growth as an artist and I have so much in store for the future. I enjoy fashion and I want to pair my digital art skill by making designs for various clothing items. Also, for the future, I am working on small animation shorts that I want to display at different festivals. What sets me apart from others is that my thinking process is wild and I never really have a plan for anything I do, I create whatever comes to mind!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The city of Atlanta is one of the most active cities I have ever been too. There is never a dull moment! I come from Kansas City, Missouri, so I am not used to seeing so many successful people (that look like me)! I love that everyone in this city is also supportive and the vibe is always nice when I attend different events. My favorite type of events are showcases where there are multiple young performers and business owners showing their craft! If you are just starting out, it is important to attend these type of events to network and make a name for your brand.
