Meet Chanise Gibbs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chanise Gibbs.

Hi Chanise, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The pandemic hit and I was forced to make a decision after losing both of my jobs. As a single mom of two, I remember saying to myself, I could sit here and cry or figure it out. As I stared at my reflection in the mirror, I noticed I was not only losing myself andI was putting out so much energy into trying to survive by working multiple jobs. I was not living the life I deserved. I noticed I was lacking self-care. My skin was breaking out and I was always tired all the time. At this moment I decided to challenge myself and do something just for me. I want to create a brand not only for others, but a brand that I too can use and go on the journey with the people. Fast forward two years later, I have created the #1 amazing self-care brand called BareSkin USA, which is a 100% plant-based skincare brand for melanin skin.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This road has not been easy. From learning the fundamentals of the business, everything from creation to operation has been a journey. Mastering the art of creating handcrafted products to actually marketing, branding, and distribution. There are many layers that goes into creating a successful business. One struggle in particular is finding trustworthy people to work with. One lesson I learned is not everyone has your best interest and want to see you win, but pain, power, and perseverance is all part of the journey.Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

I am an artist at heart. My mind is like its own universe which allows me to create and explore. I specialize in creating handcrafted skincare with infused ingredients from around the world. This allows each product to tell a story about the melanin people from around the world. What I am most proud of is that I can connect the African diaspora through my products. Our Colombian Coffee Scrub uses raw coffee beans from Colombia in which we tell the story of the melanin people from Palenque. Our African Beard Oil is infused with Chebe Powder from Chad Africa and tells a story about the melanin people there. What sets us about from other skincare brands it’s that our products are “So Addictive”. Not only does look aesthetically pleasing and the results are amazing it literally makes each person want more because each active ingredient offers amazing benefits to the skin. What do you like and dislike about the city?

I love Atlanta. This is the place for entrepreneurs especially black entrepreneurs. There’s so much culture here. From meeting black farmers to provide me fresh herbs and ingredients to local black-owned stores where I can sell and distribute my products. Atlanta is literally the hub for entrepreneurship. As I explore the city more and more, I cannot really say much bad about it. Every day it’s growing and being recognized globally.
