Meet Charles Junior

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Junior.

Charles, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Throughout my life, from as far as I could remember, my family traveled the country. From summer trips to special occasions and most holidays, we hit the road and explore a new city. Travel is something that stuck with me for most of my life and being adventurous has become apart of my psyche. During my early 20’s, I began to take it to a new level of adventurism and began to explore alone.

I took my first cross-country road trip, driving from Miami, FL. to San Diego and then back across the Midwest to Chicago. From that point, I knew I wanted to tell my stories. As I began to travel more abroad, I would study various aspects of each city and blog about it during or just after my trip. More recently, I created an Instagram account to give a visual medium for my adventures and the many more cities I plan to explore and blog about in the future.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With any experience, I have had my setbacks. Of course, there is a such thing as work-life balance, however, you can’t honestly think many employers are going to allow you to travel on their dime and not have anything to show for it. So, I had to be more strategic with my approach to my career; not just settling for a salary, but also keeping in mind my passion and ability to have balance. Finding an employer who offers incentives for employees in and outside of their organization with their goals. Having the ability to work remote when traveling and most importantly, having supportive leadership in an organization that understands balance. Let’s not get it twisted, we all have a job to do, but we can all appreciate having real work-life-balance.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
For me, it’s all about the experience. Being essentially a walking Yelp reviewer, I have many experiences in so many places that I now have the ability to truly be a travel blogger and provide feedback on those experiences to help the everyday traveler. I have created my travel blog account on Instagram for just that purpose to pick a city on my social media blog – explore and get my first-hand account of my experience. I received so many requests for recommendations on my personal social media accounts, that I felt compelled to create my travel blog account. People have enjoyed my input and have taking my recommendations when traveling. What sets me apart from most travel blogging sites or companies is that I am passionate about my experiences and do it for no cost.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
If you can be adventurous, as cliché as that may sound, it will make for a great travel experience. I understand that nothing ever goes to plan, from flights to restaurant experiences to hotel accommodations and expectations, nothing is ever going to be a sure thing. You have to be very flexible especial when traveling spur-of-the-moment trips and getaways. Understanding this element of travel has made me successful in my travel and helped me to assist others in their travels as well.
