Meet Chris Conway of Conway Law in Dunwoody

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Conway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Chris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I spent the first two years of my legal career as a staff attorney with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Once my time at the Court ended, I transitioned to a national insurance defense firm where our clients consisted of large insurance companies. I spent most of my time defending companies and occasionally individuals in catastrophic personal injury cases and wrongful death cases. The longer I worked at the firm the more I realized that defense firm life was not for me. I had a few cases where I represented injured individuals and loved helping to maximize those clients’ recoveries. It was incredibly rewarding to make a difference in someone’s life by fighting for them. Those cases were a stark contract to my defense cases where I sought to destroy an injured persons credibility or diminish the value of their case as much as possible. I also desired to spend more time with my wife and three kids and felt that they received only the crumbs of me that were left over after many hours at work. As a result, I decided to leave firm life and branch out on my own. After planning for nearly a year, I started Conway Law in September 2013 focusing on helping injury victims and their families. I love the work I do now and am honored when someone selects me as their attorney. I have the chance to help people through extremely difficult circumstances and to fight for them when insurance companies try to disregard and minimize their injuries. I am able to use my experience as a defense lawyer to maximize my clients’ cases. I handle numerous types of personal injury and wrongful death cases involving the negligence and/or recklessness of another person or of a company. I currently have cases involving car wrecks, tractor-trailer collisions, negligent security, premises liability, and construction defects. I also enjoy the freedom I now have to spend more time with my wife and with my kids as they navigate elementary and middle school. It’s a crazy, fun, and exciting time of life!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some of the challenges I faced at the beginning were learning how to be a business person, not just a lawyer, and developing a client base. When I left the firm, I started fresh without any clients. It was a little scary thinking about even paying the bills and the mortgage. My wife has always been extremely supportive which is invaluable. Beginning with my first clients, I focus on treating everyone with dignity and respect and working hard on each and every case that comes my way. I regularly get referrals from past clients which is always special as it shows I did a good job for them.

Prior to starting my firm, I did my homework on how to run a business and read books generally on entrepreneurship as well on building a law practice. However, the most valuable asset I had was other attorneys who took the time to meet with me and share what worked and what didn’t work.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a personal injury trial attorney who focused on catastrophic personal injury cases and wrongful death cases. What that means is that I prepare every case as if we were going to go to trial. Insurance companies know which attorneys are afraid of going to Court and which attorneys will hold their feet to the fire and take a case all the way through a jury trial. This approach gives me an advantage over other personal injury attorneys who are afraid and/or unwilling to go to trial and it enables me to get the best value for my clients.

One thing that sets me apart is that I take a personal approach with my clients and really listen to how an injury or the loss of a loved one have affected them not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and even spiritually. That enables me to communicate the human side of being injured, how the injury affects everyday life, relationships, and normal activities.

One thing I’m proud of is that I’ve been selected as a Super Lawyer Rising Star for the last five years, which is a peer-nominated and vetted process where only the top 2.5% are chosen. I also love being involved in the community by sponsoring my kids’ schools, the neighborhood swim team and being a long time sponsor of the Andrew P. Stewart Center which works with children and families in the Pittsburgh neighborhood south of Mercedes Bend Stadium.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Dunwoody and always had a love for sports, particularly basketball and football. As a young person, I was always a hard worker and have had some sort of job since I was 13 or 14 from janitorial work, to building swimming pools, to working in a toy store that was also a deli. As a child, I had the chance to travel a good bit overseas as my father’s job involved a lot of international travel. I even went to the Soviet Union in the 80s before the Wall came down and then lived during my first year after high school in Bosnia in the late 90s and shortly after the war there ended. Personality wise, you would have to ask my wife, but I think I’ve always been able to relate to others even though I am more introverted. I enjoy spending one on one time with others and learning about their stories.

I am also a fan of all Atlanta sports teams and particularly the Bulldawgs, the Falcons and the Hawks. However, my number one passion is my family. I love spending time with my wife, Andreja, and my kids. We love playing games, doing outdoor activities, going to events and just enjoy being together.
