Meet Cierra Reed of Boss Blinks in Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Reed.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cierra. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For most people, I know their business has probably been their DREAM since a child, but my story is completely different. A few years ago, I started going out more after the passing of my mother. I would mostly go out with friends and I would notice that they would always have there make up done, which made want to get mine done, Now everyone knows that going to go get a full face can get costly. From time to time, one of my old good friends, that I would always hang out with knew how to do make really well. I loved her make up so much that I would ask her all the time to do mine (Trust me I know she got tired of it and it showed.) I also got tired of paying for my make up to get done.

One day I decided to take a makeup class, and from there, it was on! I wasn’t the best but knew I would get better over time I knew I didn’t have a choice because I wasn’t going to keep asking my friend or paying. I watched a lot of YouTube videos and even became a YouTuber myself,I kept practicing and just like that I became a pro, all my hard work paid off. But there was one problem, I couldn’t put on my own lashes. so here we go again, I was stuck back in the same problem I would have to pay to get them put on, after a few times of going to a salon to get my lashes done, I taught myself to put them on. I was so amazed, that I taught myself how to put own lashes I had to have them all the time I would find myself at the beauty supply all the time just for lashes, It would also take me forever to pick out the right pair that I liked, well, of course, I got tired of going to the store, paying for lashes all the time and my lashes were not lasting, that was taking too much of my time, sometimes I went without lashes because I didn’t have the time. One day I thought about it and said to myself I can start my own business and sell Lashes.

So in early 2019 I started doing research looking up venders writing everything down that I was learning once I found a few vendors I ordered at least five pairs of lashes from each vendor, half of them I didn’t like, and I finally found a lash vendor that I loved, this process took months because I had to try so many lashes. I knew these lashes had to be perfect because it was going to be my brand and I wanted them to be just right. The lashes had to have quality, reusable, washable and most of all the look had to be Bossy. In the process of finding my vendor, I knew I had to find a design for my case, I already had My name and my Logo, My God mom, helped me with. The look for My Brand is a luxury style. I know it had to stand out from all the millions of lash cases out there… somehow it just came to me and no one else had it.

A compact mirror circle case this way you can keep your case forever and your lashes will be safe. You can also apply your lashes on the go if needed because of the mirror. I also wanted a case that would be keepable so that you wouldn’t lose or damage your lashes. I use to lose my lashes all the time. They would be everywhere because the lashes you buy from the store come to a plastic container. My problem was solved. I came up with lashes and a case that was made to last so my customers wouldn’t have to keep going back to the store. After finally getting everything together, I didn’t launch till December 14, 2019. It took me a year to launch because I wanted everything to be just right. I picked that date to launch because that’s my daughter’s birthday. After selling 300 lashes, I sold out by March 2020. I am now on my second Batch of lashes.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part, it has been smooth, it was a little tricky trying to find the right vendor and trusting them because you have to pay your vendor first before they make your product and you don’t want to get scammed. The other struggle is TIME! I am a full-time Mother of two and I also have two other children in my life as well by My Boyfriend. I am also a full-time girlfriend, and I have a full-time career as a Crane Operator, so as you can see, I’m very busy, But I love it all and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
My Company is called Boss Blinks. It is a Luxury Lash Line, and soon to be branched off into so much more. Right now, we offer ten different styles of Luxury lashes from short too long, from an everyday look to a dramatic look. I keep around 300 to 400 lashes in stock and I can also have more shipped out if needed. I Have an online store and I also have my store set up on Facebook and Instagram. I Offer delivery, shipping and pick up locations. As I mentioned earlier, My luxury lash case is different from most cases its not your average lash case. I am very proud of my company because its mine and I came up with the idea by myself. I also love how satisfied my customers are, I love putting a smile on others face. Just knowing that I took my time with my product and making sure everything was perfect. I know every customer will be satisfied.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up as a kid, I was always determined. At the age of twelve, my best friend and I had a lawn service, and we would cut local neighbors grass along with my own and make money every summer. By the time I was fourteen I had my Daughter, I knew to have a child at a young age was going to be hard and that everyone looked down on me and thought that I was going to throw my life away. I knew I had to prove everyone wrong, and I wanted nothing but the best for my daughter. With the help of my family, I was able to finish school and Graduate a year early.
