Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Barnes.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Corey. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name’s Corey Barnes and I’m an independent marketing and brand consultant and entrepreneur. I help businesses and other entrepreneurs increase their brand awareness through strategic partnerships, assist with raising capital and aim to help them increase their overall bottom lines. My wife and I also own a physical therapy clinic in Fayetteville, GA called Provision Physical Therapy (provisionpt.com). Lastly, I own a clothing line called Kingsley Lane (kingsley-lane.com) that features a classic, contemporary style for men and women.
I’m originally from Newport News, VA and graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 2001. And started my career in sales and marketing with what was then Clear Channel Communications (now iHeart Media) selling sponsorships and radio advertising. Working in radio led me to work with various independent artists and producers looking for strategic opportunities, both paid and unpaid, to advance their careers. From there, I went on to oversee the field and event marketing programs for several big-name, adult-targeted brands in both Virginia and the Atlanta market.
It was a near-death experience that led to the name of my clothing line, Kingsley Lane. I’d been working quite hard for a client one specific week, where we’d executed about four events that always went late into the night. One night, on the way home, I fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a tree. When I woke up, firefighters were cutting me out of my car, and I was being taken to the hospital. Although my car was completely totaled, by the grace of God, I ended up with only a few bumps and scratches and just a broken left pinky toe! After the accident, I promised myself that I would begin focusing more on my own goals and dreams. When I decided to start the clothing line and was looking for a name, I always remembered the intersection where I fell asleep and ran into that tree. It was at Granby Street and Kingsley Lane in Norfolk, Virginia.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
As they say nothing worth having comes easy. After leaving the corporate world, the main challenge was getting used to not receiving a steady paycheck. But I’m a person of extreme faith, and I believe that when God puts something on your heart, it’s up to you to trust that in the end, everything will always work out. You have to be willing to go out and put in the work.
Please tell us about the business.
As a brand consultant, I specialize in strategic partnerships, aligning different brands and organizations. I also assist with raising capital, if need be. I take pride in creating relationships that are mutually beneficial for all parties involved. From corporate America to sports, entertainment and politics. I’ve been blessed with an incredible network of friends and business associates that I’m able to utilize to help my clients.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The plans are always for continued growth. Helping more brands achieve their goals, adding additional physical therapy locations, and expanding the Kingsley Lane brand globally. I believe that there’s always an abundance of opportunities available to us all. We have to be willing to put in the effort.
