Today we’d like to introduce you to Corey Brown.
Corey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got into hair through going to punk rock/hardcore shows back in high school. I had a few friends that I was in bands with that did hair or worked in salons and it seemed like a great fit for what I was into. Being able to be myself and to work with other creative people was very important to me and still is. I’m lucky to be in a profession that allows and encourages freedom of expression.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, you’re going to have some bumps in the road, but its how you deal with them that makes you who you are. I can say everyone that I’ve worked with in the past has inspired me in some way. Whether being mentored by other stylists and trading techniques or learning some ins and outs of running a small business. I am thankful for all the bumps.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the C B H story. Tell us more about the business.
I’ve been doing hair for over 10 years now and am currently renting a booth out of an awesome salon called Cameo located in Inman Park. I’ve been there almost a year and it’s been an awesome ride. I do a range of things as far as cutting and coloring.
From natural looks like balayage and highlighting to more statement looks from platinum and multi-colored. I also do a good amount of fades and shortcuts. I think working with the client and understanding the look they are going for is the most important part of the service. Clear communication is key.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Honestly, I think the hair industry is here to stay. Everyone needs a haircut but fashion, music, and movies are still the main drivers of trends and styles. I think everyone is becoming a little more open to trying new things with their look. Especially since Atlanta is booming and more and more people are moving here, the industry is ever expanding.
