Today we’d like to introduce you to D.Renee Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a single mother of two boys. An Author, Licensed Therapist and Certified Transformational Life Coach and Consultant. The Transformation Specialist was created based on the Transformation I provided in my own life and what support others with achieving. I was born to teenage parents. My mother was 15 and my father was 16. My mother was the black sheep of her siblings so naturally she gravitated towards my paternal grandmother. As a result, I spent a lot of time with them. Well, my grandmother’s then and now husband molested me. It’s unknown how long it occurred but my mother found out when I was three years old. I contracted gonorrhea from him but he was never prosecuted. According to my mother although I showed them everything on dolls and said whatever I said during the interviews. They wanted to take me back to court when I turned five years old but my mother stated that she didn’t want to take me through that again.
Since my mother was a single parent, due to my father moving to California when I was around 1 year old. She later had other children and I became the parentified child. My mother worked a lot and when she wasn’t at work, she was with her boyfriend, husband or dating. She never really spent much time with us or attend many of the activities I was involved in at school. Therefore, I never really had that mentor, role model, guidance, empowerment in my life. As a matter of fact, my aunt who was maybe four years older than me told me at the age of 12 “you will be just like the rest of us and have a baby when your 14 or 15 too.” These words stuck with me forever.
As a result of being molested and not having that role model I struggled with self-esteem issues, not knowing my worth, didn’t think that I was pretty, my hair wasn’t long enough, my face constantly broke out, I’m flat chested with big hands and feet, etc… Unknowingly, I found myself being a people please, unassertive, two kids out of wedlock with two different men, and trying to make everyone happy except me. After three major (at the time) relationships I became sick and tired of being sick and tired. So after I dumped by youngest son father. I decided to work on myself because I wanted healthier and better relationships and I wanted to work on loving me and being okay with who I was and what I had to really offer and be able to give that to someone who could give it back to me in return. This journey took 2.5 years. I stopped dating, I stop having sex, I just focused on me and my boys.
Fast forward today, I’m standing tall in my value, I know who I am and who’s I am. I’m walking in my purpose to help other women to overcome obstacles to elevate in life and business. I’m a proud member of the National Coalition of 100 Black women Inc, MECCA chapter, here in Atlanta. I run a successful coaching and consulting business. I’ve supported thousands of women in the last 15 years. I train Law Enforcement on how to recognize signs and symptoms of Mental health while engaging individuals in the community. I’ve been featured in Sheen magazine. I will be featured monthly on 41NBC News Daybreak interviews, I will be a virtual Speaker at Jewel Tankards Millionaires Conference and several other speaking engagements.
Additionally, I’ve authored a book titled Transformation: The Journey Back to Me. It’s the woman’s guide to self-discovery which tells my journey to self-discovery and assist other women with being able to rediscover themselves after losing themselves in life and love. In addition to being the CEO and Founder of TLC Family Life Center which a nonprofit, which houses our Noble ladies in Waiting program for young mothers age 13-23.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not! Before getting to where I am. I closed down two businesses before due to lack of support with my children. Which made me had to choose between home and my business. Which in hindsight was a blessing because now I’m more clear with my purpose and I’ve matured enough to know that what I’m doing now is really what God wanted me to do all along. Oftentimes we run from things when we don’t feel worthy enough for the calling. Due to the things we’ve experienced in life. Not knowing, that it’s because of those things that qualify us for the calling.
When I started writing my book back in 2015. I wasn’t ready to be vulnerable or to tell my story and let people in my business. I’ve always been that person that if you didn’t know. You would never have guessed I had been through or know what I struggled with. Due to fear of judgment, people looking at me differently, feeling weak, etc… However, since GOD allowed me to write my book, be vulnerable, and use it as a tool to use me to help other women. He has ordered my steps every step of the way. Everything has lined up and I’m amazed at how awesome he has been and will continue to be.
Transformational Living Coaching and Consulting Services – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My business is Transformational Living Coaching and Consulting Services. However, I do business as D.Renee, The Transformation Specialist. I support women with rediscovering who they are, increasing their self-esteem and confidence, eliminate limiting beliefs so they can walk freely into their purpose and create the life and business they desire to have. As a consultant, I support business and athletes with mental tools necessary to maintain employee retention and job satisfaction. I assist athletic organizations with teaching athlete’s mental tools necessary to overcome controversy, life struggles, structural changes, and injuries.
What I’m most proud of as a company is to truly help women to transformation, love themselves, and see them grow in their life and business. What set me apart from others is that I’ve walked through what I helped other women to get through. Additionally, I have the education, experience, and proven results to support women with truly rediscovering just how awesome and amazing they are. in spite of the situation and /or circumstances they come from.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being able to truly live each day by walking in my purpose and transform the lives of women daily. To see them go from broken to breathtaking and from lost to leading. It’s gratifying and I’m fulfilled. I’m happy and a better woman, mother, one day a wife, friend, etc… to others around me. That’s a success to me!
