Today we’d like to introduce you to Dacia Kimble.
Dacia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Dacia’s Designs was born out of a desire to create vacation shirts for my family. We were heading to Disney World, so I invested in a vinyl cutting machine and got to it! Of course, I had to get my money’s worth out of the machine, so I continued making more personalized shirts. As I continued posting them on social media, I started getting requests for customized items from friends and family. So, I decided to take the leap and start a little LLC. I have since perfected my crafting skills and continue to expand the types of items I can offer. Due to a growing demand along with health issues, I decided to resign from my teaching career and pursue this entrepreneurial endeavor full-time. My wonderful husband, family, and friends were extremely supportive in encouraging me, and I’m truly thankful for them.
Has it been a smooth road?
I’d say it has been a mostly smooth road because until recently, I was only pursuing this part-time. My only bumpy moments occurred due to a little stubbornness to stop what I was doing and master a few skills.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dacia’s Designs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Currently, Dacia’s Designs’ best-selling products include graphic tees as well as customer-requested personalized tees. The majority of my customers hit me up with the “Can you make this?” message, hence one of my hashtags, #yesIcanmakethat! The business will also be expanding more into personalizing other products, like athletic apparel, tumblers, mugs, coasters, notebooks, and more.
I’m most proud of the ability to take customers’ design visions and make them a reality on the product they’re requesting. What sets me apart from others is my incorporation of various textures on my products. From glitter to appliques to flock to vivid-color prints, Dacia’s Designs offers it all!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have LOVED Atlanta since I moved here in ’96 to attend college at Clark Atlanta University. I immediately fell in love with the civil rights history of the city. I still get chills when I pass streets named after our legends. Atlanta also got me hooked with its rich musical culture. I am all things Southern, and music is no exception! I love knowing that I live in the home of my favorite hip hop artists, Outkast! And speaking of Southern, I haven’t gone anywhere else that I can consistently find so many variations of Southern food – from the hole in the wall to the upscale bougie Southern fare, I am never disappointed. One cannot ignore that Atlanta has affectionately been known as the Black Mecca for decades now. To know and be among so many successful Black people is motivational.
One thing that urks my nerves about Atlanta is the traffic! I swear I didn’t have road rage until I had to start commuting from the Eastside to downtown in college. And even with the expansion of MARTA and the highways system, it just seems to get worse. But even with that, F.I.L.A.!
