Meet Danie B. of Privacy Intimates

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danie B.

Hi Danie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Danielle Betts but most people call me Danie. I am from Detroit, MI, and have been in Atlanta since 2001. My business started in January of 2019. Privacy Intimates started with my love of robes, initially I was only going to sell robes because I was scared to do too much, eventually, I decided to take a chance and launch with a full lingerie brand and it’s been no looking back from there. Now, we’ve extended our line and even carry adult toys.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I actually paused my business for almost a full year in 2021. Dealing with a toxic relationship that was demanding was pulling me away from my business, then, my great-grandmother passed and I was in shambles and couldn’t handle anymore because I dealt with every aspect of the business myself. I paused in September 2021 and relaunched in June 2022. My Nana (great-grandmother) along with my family was really proud of my business and I wasn’t going to let her or them down. Shout out to my love, Willie Bell Betts, rest in heaven, she’ll always be my motivation!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My company Privacy Intimate’s sole mission is to motivate and encourage women to be comfortable in the skin they’re in. So often women are made to feel like certain things we say or do are forbidden, but in this new age, we are brazen, more confident, and more forthright about our power and feminity. Privacy is here to push and encourage that mission. We offer lingerie, sex toys, adult/couple games, and even sex education books. I encourage women to know that it starts with YOU! Whether that’s throwing on some sexy lingerie or exploring your own body, we want women to empower themselves. You don’t have to wear the lingerie for a man, 9/10 they really don’t care about it. I want women to realize lingerie is actually a confidence booster for us, it has nothing to do with our partner, they may enjoy looking at it but we’re the ones who feel empowered by wearing it.

We are one of few Black Owned Lingerie brands and for the past two years, we have been #3 on the Top Black Owned Lingerie Brands article that comes out yearly on National Lingerie Day. We have been blessed to have the support of and have our lingerie styled on Lauren of Love is Blind, Reginae Carter, Medinah of CockTales, Quad & Dr. Heavenly of Married to Medicine and many more.

Any big plans?
We plan on continuing to grow into a household name, we want to be synonymous with the empowerment of women instead of sexualizing them. In the future, we plan on launching a round-table-style podcast that addresses many taboo topics that women are often afraid to speak up on. The podcast will also incorporate some sex education as well as feature some amazing guests that are sure to empower our audience.
