Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Jones.
Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began three years ago, the summer prior to my junior year at Savannah State University. I was in a weird place where I knew I wanted my school to be my main focus but at the same time I was eager to start my first business. In that moment, I decided to put my all in and just go for it. I honestly didn’t know what “it” was at the time, but I knew I was ready to start my journey as an entrepreneur. I had no idea where to start other than the idea of selling a product that was attached to my brand “Danielle DeNee” so I decided to go with sunglasses. Me being a first-generation entrepreneur, I realized quickly how important it was for me to research any and everything when it came to owning a successful business. I started to dedicate certain hours of my day to really get an understanding of the basics of business and NETWORKING!
There were so many nights where I would come to roadblocks with my research and figuring out the next steps but I knew deep down inside that the best way to learn what it takes was from experience.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Let’s just say owning and operating a business is not for the weak. One of the main struggles I have endured along the way is “work-life” balance. I started this journey as a full-time student which immediately transitioned into full-time work after graduating. I often tell people that entrepreneurship is relatively close to the stock market. You will have your ups and downs and sometimes it will seem better to just give it all up. As the boss and the person everyone is looking to you can’t let those small moments rob you of your life of success. Address the issues, make a plan and execute it. We are defined more by how we get up after issues rather than how we cruise through the good times.

What were you like growing up?
Ever since I was a young girl, I have always thought strategically. Whether it was avoiding a spill on the floor or a 500 piece puzzle, I always developed a quick strategy on how to approach the situation. I was never bossy but I had a thing for leadership and organization. Unexpectedly, I was placed in leaderships position all throughout high school and enjoyed every aspect of it. It came natural to me and my family and teachers loved me for my gifts. From my youth to adulthood I’ve had the inner ability to be a leader and the mindset of an entrepreneur!
