Meet Dantrell Harris of The People’s Party for Independence/Kuumba Home Repair

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dantrell Harris.

Hi Dantrell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started doing music at a young age because of the exposure in the community. I had a few friends that had a booth and it pushed the interest in music further. After a few years of doing music, I started to learn more about the industry which brought me to realize the problems present in my community. I’ve always been dedicated to being on the winning team and I realized that my race as a whole was losing so I wanted to do something about it. This was the start of my community development which led me to purchasing and remodeling my community center!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not, as with most, the support of the people is hard to get if you aren’t doing what they want instead of what they need.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The People’s Party for Independence is a political organization. It was founded because often the voices of our people are not heard in the political arena. I wanted to put a stop to that and therefore The People’s Party For Independence was created. We dedicate ourselves to being the voice of the people who often aren’t heard and fix the issues we have in our communities by keeping it safe, clean, and organized.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Columbus. Columbus is a beautiful city that has so many things to offer. Unfortunately because of mismanagement, it is often left with eye sores. What I like least about the city is the mismanagement but we are working on changing that.
