Meet Dapo Dina of Dapo Dina The Africanist

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dapo Dina.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started out as a little kid from a music family of five where everyone sang and play one instrument and my dad took me and my brother for piano lessons. From there my piano instructor advised me to go and study music full time but I wanted to be a businessman and then we relocated to South Africa and there was more culture of jazz music and their music found me.

I was exposed to a lot of international records and decided to become a musician and after a while playing some classical and some straight-ahead jazz, I decided to create my own music which I have defined as Yoruba jazz which is a fusion of my Nigerian traditional cultural music and jazz and because of the uniqueness of the sound that I portray have been able to move around Europe Africa till I got to the states and the journey continues.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been smooth at all. As a musician, for me, the gift and the talent is there for me to create and write the music but it’s always a challenge to record and fund the recordings and publishing as I have a lot on my mind I still want to let out.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dapo Dina The Africanist – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My company specializes in producing new age sounds and my band is known for taking the audience on a journey to a unique atmospheric experience and my proud moments when I performed at the afrokarabic festival in Germany and when I released my album here in Atlanta at cafe 290 that was very prideful.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I plan to release more records which am working on another one now and planning to take the music all around the world with an amazing band.
