Today we’d like to introduce you to Daquan Williams.
Daquan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I didn’t get into photography until my last semester of college. I went to USC Columbia, in South Carolina, graduated in 2016. Ive always had an interest in taking pictures but fulfilling that last credit requirement pushed me to dive into headfirst. After graduating in May of 2016, I moved to Atlanta in June that same year. My good friend Teddy actually pushed me and convinced me to start taking photography more seriously and to do research as far as editing, different lighting techniques, and to really start finding my own style photography and what interested me. I started doing test/free shoots here and there with friends for fun and to play with editing wise. Once I moved into my apartment in 2017, I started building my at home studio up from the ground up. And now after diligent saving and investing I can now travel and do outside shoots or in different locations with my equipment. I still shoot with my canon t5i, but would honestly want to invest into a more advanced camera.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not always been smooth. Struggles included balancing finances with investments with equipment, constant marketing practices to advertise myself as a photographer, still trying to open my market to more than just the dance community here in Atlanta, having availability to photograph people while maintaining a regular job and my dance career, last but certainly not the least important, placing a value on myself and not shortchanging my work.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Q.Suavio Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
It’s a Photography business. I do mostly portrait shots, people usually book me for personal pictures to celebrate upcoming birthdays, headshots for auditions, dane shots, I’ve shot a couple of models to help add to their portfolio. Im most proud of me overcoming my forthcomings of what I mentioned earlier and finding ways to maneuver around those obstacles. I believe what sets me apart from others is my willingness to learn and not be content or comfortable in what I currently have. I always sit and think about other things I can improve on, or just sit and price things I can purchase help elevate my photography to another level.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like that Atlanta is about opportunity, you can really manifest your destiny and go for what you want. The least I like about Atlanta is that a lot of time networking is the key to moving forward which it is for any city, and sometimes business comes from relationships and not content.
