Today we’d like to introduce you to Dasia Johnson.
Hi Dasia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always been into beauty. I started off in Washington DC as a plus-size model for the #1 modeling organization Models Inc, who helped me to grow not only as a model but they were a big part of shaping me into the diva I am, minus being spoiled by my parents lol
After graduating high school, I went on to college. My first thought was to model, I never knew that I would become an inspiration to so many full-figured women on campus when I joined Lethal Allure Nation at Savannah State University. That was also the year, I started my business and my YouTube channel Vanity by Venus.
I had all of the top models on campus wearing my products! I would set up in the Student Union during entrepreneurship events, and I was always a walking build board for my brand around campus.
College was the start of the makeup journey.
I look back at some of my old YouTube videos and cringe at the beginning stages lol.
It wasn’t until after graduation where I moved to Atlanta and expanded my brand to services!
That’s how I began to do makeup and get certified in lashes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s hard work! When I started, no one knew me and the people who I expected to support, didn’t. I rebranded so many times, I’ve given up and been through all the motions of any entrepreneur. It was my job to pivot and figure out ways to get my business to people who didn’t know me, I still struggle sometimes in my business. I moved from DC to Atlanta where people don’t know me. But it’s up to me to continue to push and not quit until I get the results I’m looking for.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a certified in lash Extensions and Microblading/ Microshading but I am most known for being a makeup artist. I was trained by celebrity Makeup Artist Mz Jazz, who showed me how she does celebrities such as Cardi B, JT, Nene Leakes, and more. I’m different from other people because, when you come to me, yes, the makeup is very important, but the experience is the most important. I pride myself in making everyone who sits in my chair feel good, feel confident. That’s where Vanity by Venus came from. Vanity means to show excessive pride in oneself, and I make sure my clients feel just that. I want readers to know, that my brand is authentic and genuine. You will receive top-tier customer service and a quality service! My brand is about to launch our “PINK FRIDAY” sale, and our new cosmetic product line is set to drop in December. Also, our first every class will be in the new year.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Washington DC. Since I was little, my mom would audition me for commercials and I was even a model for rainbow clothing in one of our local malls. But when I joined Models INC, I was able to participate in runway shows, photoshoots, and entertainment fashion shows. My most recent show, I was chosen to perform as the Queen Bee “Beyonce”. Although I tried other sports, modeling was my hobby from the time I started high school to today. It’s more than a hobby… It’s one of my passions. Being able to get my makeup done at the shows and remembering how I felt, I want to project that same energy onto all of my clients.
