Today we’d like to introduce you to David Hawthorne II.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I went to school for video, had to drop out. Then, moved to Denver for two years on my own. Got inspired to use my camera for photography and changing up my focus from moving images to stills.
Please tell us about your art.
Honestly, I’m still very new to being an independent artist but, my main goal is to use whatever I can creatively to reflect my culture and the world around me. I missed being in Atlanta a lot and I realized how beautiful the people were inside and out. When I thought about it, it just made sense to shoot people and things in order to show the finite moments of who we are and those special unique instances where we shed our superficialities and just are ourselves. I try to work as much as possible in order to achieve that goal.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I don’t think much has changed for artists honestly, just how we view it has evolved. However I think right now, Atlanta and the people have been doing great, places like The Bakery and indie groups like Plasma Mag really try to bring out the best and highlight who really out here in the field.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
