Meet DeAndra Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAndra Brown.

DeAndra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was in Yearbook in high school, and that is when I was introduced to photography. Ever since then, I have been addicted to taking pictures.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me because it’s been times where I felt like I wasn’t good enough to be in the photography world. I would look at my photos and compare them to other photographers, however, after being extremely hard on myself and receiving critique from my peers. A few months passed by, I started to believe in myself that my work was good enough, with the help of Stephon a photographer based in Atlanta. He mentioned to me that ” art is subjective, and that those who have never done it should not cast a judgment”. That was some of the best advice I received, and ever since then, I started to believe that I’m a wonderful photographer.

My advice to any upcoming photographer or creator would consist of this: Don’t doubt yourself, you are amazing, and if you’re not where you want to be, in due time you will be there!

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
I specialize in portrait photography. I’m so impressed where I came from because, in the past, I wasn’t confident in my craft. However, now I believe in myself that I can do anything I put my mind to. I still have a lot of room for improvement such as learning how to retouch better and how to create better editorial ideas. What sets me apart is my creative ideas, ambition and drive, and my consistency.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Where I’m from its not that many creators, so my recommendation would consist of creating a creator spot where creators and photographers can gather around and create some art. In the near future, I want to create a photo studio for local creators to create.
