Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Anderson.
Deanna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Twelve years ago, I took the leap of faith to leave an industry leading PR agency and take my energetic and effective approach to business and create my own agency – 705 Marketing, a boutique marketing firm which specializes in brand development, social media and PR for consumer, technology and nonprofit clients.
I believe my energy and ability to deliver results to my clients has allowed me to become a successful entrepreneur bringing tangible outcomes across a variety of businesses. Based on my team’s expertise, our clients who have limited budgets have access to a level of campaigns and programs normally reserved for larger clients and budgets.
Little did I know 12 years ago, when I took that leap, that within a very short period of time I would also be adding Mom to my resume. The flexibility of owning my own business has allowed me to ride the surf board of balancing work, life and civic engagement. I strive to enthusiastically make a positive impact on our community including my son and daughter and set an example for them on the positive impact you can make through dedication and surrounding yourself with amazing people.
I am also very passionate about advocating for the women and children of Atlanta. I currently sits on the board of the Atlanta Children’s Shelter and volunteer with The Atlanta Women’s Build for Habitat for Humanity, CASA on the Catwalk Luncheon & Fashion Show supporting Georgia CASA and Girl Scouts. I also served as the 100th president of the Junior League of Atlanta, a membership organization of 3400 women focused on positively impacting the lives of women and children in Atlanta. To celebrate our 100th year, we invested $1 million dollars back into the Atlanta community to grants to Atlanta Community Food Bank, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and a partnership of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Georgia Heirs Property Law Center and Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. Six weeks after venturing out on my own, I found out I was pregnant with our son, Carter. Which was wonderful news but brought the challenges of starting a business, financing a maternity leave and work flow plan while spending time with our son. Three years later, we were once again blessed to welcome our daughter, Reese, into our family and once again faced similar challenges. However, the flexibility to be involved with our children was worth the short-term challenges of owning my own firm and began what I consider the balancing of life on a surf board.
In the last 12 years, I have come to view the balancing of life like riding a surf board. Not all things can always be equal. You have to find the balance to keep yourself up on the board and that means sometimes some areas get a little less to keep everything up on top of the wave.
An integral part of not falling off my surf board is my kitchen cabinet – the men and women who help me navigate and stay on the surf board in my personal, professional and civic life!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 705 Marketing – what should we know?
705 Marketing which specializes in brand development, social media and PR for consumer, technology and nonprofit clients. 705 Marketing believes great marketing is born at the intersection of strategic brand strategy and innovative storytelling. Combining my experience managing global campaigns for Fortune 500 companies with my love of working with startups and nonprofits, we build and execute world-class communication programs.
By utilizing a network of contractors and the virtual agency model, I am able to ensure that we have the right mix of talent on each and every client project. This flexibility allows us to quickly ramp up or ramp down to meet our clients needs. The virtual agency model also allows us to keep overhead expenses low which enables us to continue to offer a level of expertise that is often reserved for much larger budgets.
I am most proud of the team’s ability to continue to provide amazing client results in an ever changing marketplace, as well as the close knit team we have developed that really is like family!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think one of my favorite quotes sums it up: “Dare to instigate! Take chances, create opportunities, make things happen. Risk greatness.”
As a mom, wife, runner, volunteer and marketing professional, I try to use my life to help inspire others to chase their dreams like I did — from running a marathon to opening their own business to my ongoing goal of trying to be the best mom possible. In my work and life, I strive to create a collaborative, energetic and fun environment where everyone’s ideas are respected and have the opportunity to be explored. I think an optimistic and positive outlook combined with a daily dose of Starbucks has allowed me to create a lasting business with a team that is like family.
