Meet Deanna Choo of The Muva Life in College Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Choo.

Deanna, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my company when I was in a very vulnerable state. I just had my daughter and graduated from college. I didn’t really know what was next, but I enjoyed writing. After my pregnancy, I went through postpartum depression; like most moms who are afraid to talk about it. I had no one to talk to about it because I thought no one would ever understand and I didn’t want anyone to label me as “crazy.” I started writing down my thoughts, and I created myself a blog; I didn’t publish it right away because I was nervous. I finally published my first blog back in 2017. I used this to express myself and use it as an outlet for other Mothers like myself who can relate.

Shortly after, I started Shopmuvalife.com; Shop Muva Life is for all MUVAS to express themselves through everyday fashion wear. Moms can be sexy, too, right? MuvaLife is not just a brand; it’s a lifestyle. The gear that we have at ShopMuvaLife range from Daytime mom to weekend mom vibes to “Momtrepreneur ” vibes. We have gear for the toddlers and some special items for Dads as well. I want everyone to feel comfortable in their own skin and love their bodies. Currently, we’re working on our MUVALIFE foundation, and with that, I plan to bring awareness to postpartum depression for all mothers. We’re also working on a Lingerie line for all MUVAs. So stay tuned!!

I applaud all the MUVAS who can effortlessly raise a family, work a 9-5, run a business, maintain and build credit, and still have faith.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being a “Momtrepreneur” isn’t an easy road at all. I wouldn’t dare lie to you; however, I do believe God doesn’t give you more than you can chew. I asked for God to Bless me, and I can’t complain. Life may not have happened how I expected, but it’s life, right. Being a mom, working a full-time job, going to school to get my MBA while running a business can be a BIG circus. I try to stay organize and balance things. I put aside time for my family. My daughter, “Dakota” loves to eat, and she loves the outdoors. I live in the city, so it isn’t much grass, but I take her to the park when I get off work, and she enjoys that time with me. I just truly write things down and try to prioritize my life and things. I know this hard work will pay off despite the obstacles that are thrown at me daily.

I tend to work on TheMuvaLife almost every day; I want to better myself and my company. I pray daily and ask God to strengthen me and to remove anything or person in my way or who doesn’t mean me well.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Muva Life – what should we know?
ShopMuvaLife is a lifestyle for all Mothers (MUVAs) around the world. I want us to embrace motherhood daily; no matter who you are, where you are, or how you became a MUVA – embrace it. Motherhood is BEAUTIFUL. I don’t hear or see enough “Mom” safe havens and TheMuvaLife (Blog) is a place where you can feel comfortable. That by itself sets us apart.

TheMuvaLife is my baby; I’m proud that I even started this company and want to bring awareness and make other moms feel special and good. Moms must know that we were someone before we had our babies, and that person does matter as well.Currently my team and I are working on TheMuvaLife Foundation, Our Goal is to bring awareness to motherhood and postpartum depression around the globe.

I wanted TheMuvaLife to be known for helping another Muva in need and just knowing that I can uplift someone who might have been through or going through the same thing as I once did, gives me so much joy and life.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My biggest cheerleader is my daughter, Dakota R. I know that might sound cheesy, but she really is. She is the reason I’m a MUVA;Without her, this wouldn’t be possible at all. When I’m down she instants brightens my day. She tells me I’m pretty even when I feel ugly. No matter what she wakes up daily with a smile on her face and I’m just like I know there is a God. Like she really is my biggest cheerleader and support. She reminds me daily that I’m doing my best. She is so full of energy and joy. My family play a BIG role as well; Shout out to the PHILLIP GANG !! Last but not least, I also want to thank my very own MUVA, Deborah; she is my rock and my personal super woman. She raised 6 beautiful children alone and I can’t thank her enough for her sacrifices and strength.
