Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Dumont.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Since I can remember, I’ve been creative. I was the kid drawing on walls, cutting up my clothes and hand-sewing them into something new, painting on school binders… it took me a a few decades to decide to choose a to make a career out of something I’d always considered a hobby, but I’m glad the light bulb finally came on. Previously, my home was the only place I decided to showcase my artwork. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster but I’m glad to share my creativity with the world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Most of the struggles I’ve experienced so far have been internal, within myself. Lack of confidence, self-doubt, comparing yourself to others — these internal conflicts can make or break an artist, especially in the field of non-objective art. I was causing myself to lose focus, and as a result, my work was unfocused as well. Luckily, I’ve cast off much of my distracting thoughts and have found the discipline I need to create a cohesive collection.
DMD Studio Art – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
DMD Studio Art specializes in abstract resin art. We use epoxy resin and pigments to create abstract expressionism paintings and, more recently, jewelry. Our art has come along way and I’m looking forward to a unified collection with beautiful colors that draw you in. I love that my artwork invokes different feelings and visualizations from different people. Analogous to a melting pot, our art mixes different colors and textures and, in kind, elicits a plethora of mental images. I love being able to look at a piece and see new details every time. Our pieces will keep you interested and engaged, sure to not blend in with the scenery.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I lacked confidence in many areas and there were many things I knew I’d have to do in order to be successful in this field. One being showing my artwork and the other, interacting closely with people. I’d gotten over the first hurdle, but was struggling with the second. So, I’m proud of myself for overcoming my fear of interacting with people I don’t know. I can’t take too much credit, because I’ve met so many supportive people. It’s with their support that I’ve gained the courage to keep going. I’m so grateful for the wonderful interactions I’ve had since beginning the work I think that I was born to do.
