Today we’d like to introduce you to Deborah Ware.
Deborah, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the tender age of about ten, I established the interest for singing. In other words, I realized that I had a voice that was developed. As a kid I loved to sing along with the music played on the radio. Growing up I would love playing and pretending that I was performing in front of an audience. So, I would pretend to be in a talent show using my hair brush as my microphone. To add to it I would stand on top of my bed, and always stayed in the mirror. I would love to sing songs by Diana Ross like “I’m Coming Out” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5, Natalie Cole, The Temptations and more. The only musician in my household was my father, who was a drummer and a School teacher. He always had a passion for music. When my father became aware that I could sing he was shocked! He asked me was I really sure that I wanted to sing, and he began to put things in motion to work with me. He began writing songs, and put together a band. As the wheels were in motion I began going to the studio for vocal training three times a week in New Orleans to work with a vocal coach. From this I had the opportunities to begin singing in multiple Talent Shows and then performing with a band in front of audiences. The next step was having the experience to record in a studio with a live band. This was the opportunity that I never dreamed of. My father was dedicated and wrote a song for me to sing entitled “Its Time For Love” and I recorded my first song at Malaco Studio in Jackson Mississippi. With much support from my father I continued to sing all through high school performing at Senior Prom and Homecoming Dances at my school.
The most exciting and memorable experience was having my first recorded song played over the PA system in my High School. I continued singing , continued vocal training, and enjoyed it. Every entertainer takes a break in life to raise a family, attend college and more. Some discontinue their journey in music while others continue on at another time in their life. I was one of those that came back and continued in my adult life. Sometimes when something is meant to be God makes you see it and then you follow through with it. I’ve always been a natural with singing and knew I blessed with a voice, so I knew that I was destined to continue. I returned to singing, performing and started writing my own music after raising my family and completing college. Sometimes raising a family, working a 9-5 job leaves no opportunity for our dreams, but I made a promise to myself that I would follow my dreams and let nothing stop me. I have always had a dream of being on stage, bright lights, awesome sound systems, and great energetic audiences while singing my heart out.
Today, I am living my dream without focusing on validation from anyone, age, or negativity of others. I am fortunate and blessed to have recorded two EPs and one full album with songs all written and produced by me that can be found on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Reverbnation and more. I also have the video on Vevo entitled “The One,” along with many live performance videos on YouTube. I have had the opportunity to have met some music celebrities such as Kandi Buress, Keke Wyatt, Diana Ross, Rhonda Ross, Howard Hewitt, SWV, Latoya Jackson, the late Barry White and more. As an independent artist, I also created a platform for my music called “Live in the Divas Den” with Deborah Ware(Host) & Andre Tyrone(Co-host). I started hosting my platform out of my living room in my home three years ago and I am still going strong. My show airs live every Friday via Facebook Live from 7 pm-8 pm. My vision was not only to support myself but to share it with other singers, authors, poets and entrepreneurs that were willing to share their talents with others.
My musical talent has opened the door for me to write my first book about my struggles in life that did not stop me from being successful. Today prayers, strong determination, courage, motivation and learning my worth is what got me where I am today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an independent artist has not been a smooth road. I have had to prove my abilities, except others, of being critical of my talent and age. When you are dedicated to doing something positive you want to be able to share it with family and friends. For me as a singer and performer every time I stepped out to perform I had to look out in the audience and see that I had no family their for me to root me on. Sometimes that hurts, but you get over it. Having no representation there for you when others do makes you feel very down. I’ve been there…… Its gotten better, I’m stronger. I’m wiser.
Please tell us about The Divas Den with Deborah Ware.
I am known as a “Dream Catcher” because I not only believe in my dreams, but I am an encourager for others. I am the CEO of my company “The Divas Den” with Deborah Ware, which is a live streamed show that started as a platform for me as a singer/indie artist, but for other singers, authors and more. My show goes live every Friday from 7 pm-8 pm via Facebook live. My show has been established since 2018 and we provide weekly inspiration, news, and we feature indie music. I am known as a “Songtress” with a dream along with the passion for love ballads. Love is expressed in the lyrics of my songs. I am also known for bringing success to the lives I touch. Why do I say this?? Because before the singing, talk show hosting, Author I am a wife, mother, Grandmother and educator/5th grade teacher. I am proud of being able to meet and interview all of the wonderful guest artists that have allowed me to learn about their talent and life. It is a blessing to be able to be going strong and growing as a CEO and Author of my first book published by Ardre Orie, Ghost Writer for the Stars of 13th and Joan Publishing Company.
What sets me apart from others is that I encourage, support, and believe in others and their dreams. I push them to fulfill their dreams without validation from others. I am dedicated and I show strong leadership in everything I do.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have believed more in myself without leaning on the validation of my dream from others.
