Today we’d like to introduce you to Demi Cortez.
Demi, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well for starters, I grew up on the westside of Atlanta. I was always a “pretty boy” growing up. Very much so into the beauty industry and self-care. As a teen, I struggled with problematic skin. After seeing a dermatologist and trying numerous product lines and treatments that didn’t work, I knew it had to be something I could do for myself. Something that would help with my skin problems, and not be so harsh, like some of the dermatologist recommendations.
Fast forward to a few years after high school and dropping out of college, I stumbled upon an industry called aesthetics! I enrolled in aesthetics school in Atlanta and that’s where my love for skin blossomed. Through the knowledge obtained and the understanding of skin, a new passion was born. Everything about skin made me happy. I knew at that point this was my calling. Having the ability to treat and maintain my skin along with helping others achieve their best-skin possible was a blessing. Nothing was more satisfying.
After finishing esthetics school and not landing a full time job in my career field, I switched gears and went into Retail Management. Still doing skin on the side, there was a void that wasn’t being fulfilled. Throughout the years in retail I knew I had to get back to my calling.
Fast forward to 2018, Demi Cortez Skincare was born! Yay! After leaving retail I knew it was time to get back to me. I saved and manifested my new life. I started doing services again full throttle and didn’t look back. Everything started to fall into place as planned and I was on the way. My clients bring me the most joy. Being able to educate them on proper skincare and maintenance is a skill I never take for granted. They could go anywhere for their services, but they trust me and I love them for that. My dream is to own my own spa chain in Atlanta and other US cities. I want to be able to give little esthetician’s coming up after me a chance. All while creating an environment for people to retreat to and obtain skin and beauty services.
Along with my spa chain my baby is my skincare product line that is currently in production. I have fought and SACRIFICED for this product line and I can’t wait for the world to experience my products. I wanted to create a line that was affordable, yet effective. A line that had pure and clean ingredients, all while including highly corrective ingredients also to balance my line out and set it apart from others. My line will be launching in August 2020 and I’m ready to make my mark on the beauty and skincare industry even more.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It definitely has not been a smooth ride. Lol. From finding myself and understanding my purpose to growing and evolving as a gay black man. I want to be a representation for the ones coming up after me. Especially from inner city urban communities. College is not for everyone. A 9-5 is not for everyone. There are other ways to become who you want to be in life. Plan, manifest and execute. Find your purpose and put it into action. I had to realize what I wanted in life and what made Demi happy. Once I understood that, my vision became clearer and my path was in full sight.
Demi Cortez Skincare – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I started Demi Cortez Skincare in 2018. I offer skincare services in the Atlanta/Brookhaven area. Chemical Peels, Hydrofacials, Micro-Needling, Dermaplaning and so much more are all offered. I like to offer my clients a facial experience like no other. From the ambience to the education, I like to help my clients understand their skin. It’s one thing to get a facial, but if you don’t understand your skin and what’s going on, then you won’t be able to maintain it in between services. I pride myself on making sure my clients have an enjoyable experience. After the facial if my clients aren’t looking in my mirror touching their faces, I’m not satisfied. Lol. It’s nothing like seeing your clients anxious to touch and feel their skin after a service. The reaction is priceless.
Along with my services offered, my skincare line will offer products for all skin types and most conditions. In August, my line will be launching with cleansers, moisturizers and treatment serums. I have worked hard to make sure the quality and effectiveness of my products are top notch. I want my clients to have complete skincare options that they can be proud to use in my brand. There will be something for EVERYONE. My line will be offered via in person pickup/local delivery and mail via my website. Mailing only in the USA for now.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck is a tricky word. I live by faith. I walk by faith. Everything happens for a reason and I’m a firm believer in that. Would I say I’m lucky or have bad luck, no! Would I say I’m blessed and have been taught a few life lessons along the way? Hell yes! Lol
