Today we’d like to introduce you to Dena Totaro.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a passion for health and helping others but early in my life, I wasn’t sure how to achieve that objective, so I chose the traditional route of college and received my undergraduate degree in psychology. Before completing the path of becoming a clinical psychologist, life took over. It was nearly a decade after college that my real journey began. I found myself going through a divorce with an infant and a toddler, physically sick, emotionally drained and barely having enough energy to get out of bed. After a yearlong search of going from doctor to doctor trying to find out why I was so ill, I was finally diagnosed with Lyme Disease, 4 autoimmune disorders, staph infection throughout my entire body among a long list of other health issues. I felt trapped in a deep dark hole, with no energy to climb out and only a slither of light far off in the distance. But since the light was there, I knew I could reach it.
This was the start of my journey towards self-transformation – healing my body and mind while awakening my spirit. I began a holistic healing approach, using nutritious food as medicine, developing my self-awareness through the practice of yoga and healing my heart through meditation and energy healing. As I began healing my body, my passion to extend that same healing to others grew.
I started doing workshops on the healing power of bone broth and developing a healthy living mindset. The joy of these experiences only stoked my desire to expand my skill sets, and I became a yoga & meditation instructor, certified crystal energy healer and intuitive soul coach. Through my journey of healing and desire to live an authentic life, I help others connect with their heart’s purpose by helping heal traumas and creating positive habits. My goal is to help connect each person to the bright light that’s always shining from within.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was NOT a smooth road. It took years for my body to physically heal and practice to overcome my own personal fears. When you create your own business and put yourself out there, you must learn to push through fear and doubt, while maintaining faith in yourself. It takes time for this growth to reveal itself but when it does, it’s most rewarding and one of the best confidence-building practices to exercise.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
It is my passion to help individuals live a purposeful life. I help individuals work through a variety of life’s challenges – they could be feeling stuck or may need help healing from trauma. Others may need to work on forgiveness, self-love, finding love, physical and/or emotional pain, spiritual growth, etc. During healing sessions, I combine intuitive gifts with breathwork, visualization, and crystals to coach each client, in accordance with their soul’s purpose. I also teach yoga and meditation around town, hold healing circles, and host crystal and healthy eating workshops. I am expanding on other projects to bring more awareness to the public on the benefits of energy healing and holistic care.
What sets me apart from other healers/coaches are two things: (1) I use my intuition to see peoples’ blocks (both emotional and physical), combined with other techniques (breath-work, visualization, coaching, Reiki, crystals, etc.) which enables me to clear and balance their energies while providing individual tools to help them continue on their journey, Each session is unique to what each person needs. (2) I continue working on myself every day. In order to help others, I believe I must also work through my own personal challenges so I can authentically help others.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, there is nothing I would change. Every roadblock or detour is a lesson learned and room for growth. My challenges help me create my business and I wouldn’t do anything different.
