Thanks for sharing your story with us Desiree. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve always loved to cook for family and friends. I started cooking as a preteen. My mom has been an RN for most of my life so I helped a lot with dinner. I realize my passion for cooking came in my early 20s. I’ve always been known amongst family and friends to cook Sunday dinner. I like everyone to get their minds and souls right for the upcoming week. This was an outlet for me to try new recipes out. My family and friends would always encourage me to monetize my talents I always declined! Fast forward…
I was working in Corporate America managing customer service and logistics and became unhappy and knowing that I wanted more and I wasn’t fulfilling my purpose. I called one of my mentors (Felicia Mobley) on my way to work one day and I told her I just couldn’t do this job anymore I knew I was supposed to be doing something else, through that phone conversation Desi Date Nights became an idea. It has definitely manifested into more than what I initially expected.
Desi Date Nights provides tastebud dancing dishes with superior customer service while creating a memorable experience. I enjoy creating lasting experiences and this platform allows me to do so. I originally thought I would just be providing date night services but I’ve been blessed to do more such as Anniversaries, birthdays, private dinner parties, corporate events, baby showers, weddings, movie premieres, meal prep, lunch program for teachers. I have been truly blessed to have awesome mentors such as Chef Willie Wallace and Chef Rockey and the chef crew that keeps me together.
My parents have been a tremendous support system for me through encouragement and financial acts of kindness! I love them to death! My best friends and different people in my life that encourage and push me to the best! My children, I’m showing them the entrepreneurial experience first hand!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This has not been a smooth road! This journey has truly been a humbling experience. I have learned that when I want something there is nothing that can stop me. I have invested a lot of time and minimal sleep in Desi Date Nights. I have invested a lot of my own financial resources into making my business thrive. I’m a mother of two and my time with them has been sacrificed so that I can continue to provide a great future for them.
Desi Date Nights – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I provide memorable experiences through my food and awesome customer service! I specialize in date nights but have expanded to much more. I’m known for having tastebud dancing food! I love to plan date nights with my clients and seeing the look of their loved ones face when they enter the location. I provide different date night packages. I could come to your home and provide experience or private location. I have also built relationships with hotels and Airbnb super hosts to further go above and beyond for my clients in providing service at a private location. My clients also get to create their own custom 3-course menu. I’m proud of business because I’ve been able to connect with people through my food. It’s satisfying pleasing your clients. I’m different from other personal chefs because I create an experience from the beginning of the process and make it as seamless as possible.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I believe success for me personally would be to continue to meet my small goals so it’s not overwhelming. I would like Desi Date Nights to be the first thought for food and date nights. I want to continue to provide for my family and inspire people that hard work does pay off and taking the easy route doesn’t always make you successful. I understand the process of hard work now to actually see the fruits of my labor come into fruition is an amazing experience/feeling.
