Today we’d like to introduce you to Despues Green.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Despues. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Philadelphia, PA a proud military brat. My father served in the Army and when my parents split my mother remarried into a man who went into the Navy. Growing up, I struggled with self-image because of abuse at home, bullying at school, and just overall the military brat lifestyle was detrimental to my ability to build and maintain relationships. But I was extremely bright, creative, and driven to do what I wanted to do which has always been music. Now, at the age of 21, I have a much clearer idea of what it is that I am looking for and why Life is what it is and I am more eager than ever to put this more mature version of myself out into the world… Watch out, though, I’ve had many visions about this version of myself (and beyond).
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Absolutely not! As mentioned, I never really received support from my family in terms of my aspirations. Getting my family to do or get anything I wanted or may have assisted in my development was ultimately impossible. I very much have an Ugly Duckling story.
At the age of 19, I became homeless. I had no family support, I went away to Job Corps, graduated in four months, but I really didn’t care to be there, I wanted to be out as soon as possible. I wound up working at Yellowstone National Park for a few months before being hit with huge creative ideas to promote myself (I missed the risk of being outside). I’ve always struggled with being accepted because of whatever it is people get about me but at least I’ve come to accept it differently at this point in my life.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am an Audio Wizard. I am a music producer, audio engineer, songwriter, performer, multi-instrumentalist… my specialty is in Music. I have cultivated my own sound, over 300,000 streams globally, I am boundless in terms of my versatility though my primary focuses are in the Hip Hop, R&B, Soul genres.
At a base, what sets me apart from others is that I actually do music as a passion and not as a hobby nor as a cash grab. I remain true to my genuine self because that’s what makes me feel most pure and apparently others as well. I am usually compared to Michael Jackson and James Brown and then XXXTENTACION and Hopsin and Eminem. In every aspect of music, it is unique, it is powerful, and it affects any and all who witness my Energy.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am currently working on six albums at once, starting with “The Stomach”, which is set to release in September 2021.
The entire six-album collection is called “The Experience” and is about the development of the Human Spirit. “The Stomach” is about nourishment/the Starving Artist. This album was developed during my homelessness on days and nights I couldn’t eat and under various conditions of my life. I see “The Stomach” as a marker for gaining sustenance into my Life.
Throughout my journeys, though, I have come to realize that clear focus comes from clear Knowledge and inherently Wisdom. And knowing that means that there is a different appreciation for life when you have access to and are open to being mentored. I am creating opportunities for artists to gain essential Knowledge about the Music Business with LearnMBE and more, so stay tuned for that!
