Meet Diana Ward of Diana Ward Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Ward.

Diana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I got my first camera when I was ten. I took pictures of everything and took a camera everywhere. Even when I was little, the best part of field trips was always the disposable camera my parents got me to document the trip. It wasn’t until I was about 17 that I started taking photos of people. I was instantly hooked and I drove my friends and family absolutely mad pointing a camera at them all the time. I got first place in my first photo competition (the county fair!) when I was 11, the first competition I’d ever entered. My senior year of high school I won state and won a scholarship at a tech fair for my photo submission. I’m now in school and in the last two years, I’ve shot New York Fashion Week, Interned for cosmopolitan and Seventeen magazines, and traveled all over the place taking photos. I love people more than anything in the world and photography really helps me capture the beauty I see in each person I meet. I get a real high off of creating something that I love and that other people love as well. I have a lot of big plans this year. I’m going to Paris in a few weeks, I have a few weddings to shoot all over the US, I’ve been invited back to shoot NYFW this fall, and I’m making plans to finally move to New York this November to pursue photography. Here’s to what’s coming.

Has it been a smooth road?
Since I won that first competition I had no doubt in my mind that this is all I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Of course, not everyone agreed. My biggest struggles have been deciding whether or not to pursue a college degree (or if it’s even worth it) having self-doubt and fearing that I wouldn’t make it, and most of all overcoming the urge to create for others. I’ve committed this year to myself. I’m working really hard to find my style and really commit to it, and it’s going so well. I got my website up and I’ve been beaming for a week. At the end of the day, I know I was made for this and that nothing can really stop me but me.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Diana Ward Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m known for portrait photography. I really enjoy fashion and urban photography, and I really enjoyed working in the magazine industry. I think one thing that sets me apart is that there isn’t anything that can distract me from making it. No relationship, no drug, no amount of money could pull me away from doing this because nothing else in life can give me the same feeling photography does. I know that’s corny, but at the end of the day I’ve got no other option. I’ve gotta make it.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Atlanta for the music, for the food and because I think it captures all the best parts of the south. In New York, I gotta commute 30 minutes to find a sweet tea. And what am I supposed to eat at 2 AM if there’s no Waffle House? I’m anxious to get out but Atlanta will always be home.
