Meet Dina Smith of Organized Life Works

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dina Smith.

Dina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Atlanta on the heels of a divorce around 2004. During that time I was quickly promoted to the Store Manager of Sales for The Container Store in Buckhead. While this was great and exciting, I noticed that my oldest daughter had begun to read and I have very little to do with it. With a desire to “actually” raise my own child, I knew that retail was no longer the environment for me.

After much soul-searching, I wanted to become a coach but had no idea how to pay for it. Researching educational backgrounds of coaches I discovered that the most successful coaches had a background in counseling and business. Bingo! With an undergraduate degree in Psychology and all of my work experience in business, I was headed in the right direction.

While still working for The Container Store, I began to lay the groundwork for what is now Organized Life Works, LLC. I coined and purchased the domain name in 2007 and did not launch the organizing side of my business for another 7 years, During those 7 years I obtained a Master’s, became a Licensed Therapist, had my 2nd daughter and launched Organized Life Works!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business ownership is not an easy road. There are many opportunities for growth along the way. One of my biggest struggles is discipline and learning to trust my instincts.

There are so many moving parts. When you work for someone else, usually the logistics of the job are laid out. In my case, blending counseling with that tangible world of Professional Organizing, I don’t have a blueprint or handbook. I am creating the blueprint as I go. That can be both exciting and terrifying.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Organized Life Works – what should we know?

I feel there are two characteristics that are important to my success. Both”vision” and understanding your “why” are vital to gaining, maintaining or achieving success. “Vision” is required for direction and the “why” is required to keep you moving.
