Today we’d like to introduce you to DNisa Joseph.
Hi DNisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always loved makeup. My first taste of makeup artistry came in 2015 when my little cousin was a contestant for Miss Teen USA New York. She entrusted me with her big day and I loved being backstage, perfecting her look and doing touch ups. After that experience, I invested in a certification course with a bridal company in New Jersey, where I got professional training. Over the years, I’ve done bridal, editorial work, fashion shows, etc. I love the creative process and most importantly, I understand the profound effect that makeup can have on someone’s self-confidence. When a client loves the look and leaves an appointment feeling their best, it makes the sacrifices worth it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In between building a business, I’m a mother, a student, have another career. Makeup artistry is my passion, so building Crown Makeovers has been a labor of love. It’s staying up late to work on my website after putting my child to bed or washing and sanitizing my kit for the next days appointments after homework and an 8 hour workday. It hasn’t always been easy. Moving to Atlanta last year when Covid-19 first hit pandemic status has been difficult, but I continue to strive towards my business goals and network.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a professional makeup artist and owner of Crown Makeovers. I specialize in bridal makeovers but also do runway and editorial work. What sets me apart is my level of professionalism and care. I always try to give my clients what they’re looking for and, as a professional, my goal is to ensure they know that I value their time and trust. So whether it’s a modest bridal look to a glitter eye, I aim to please.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve worked with some amazing people along the way. The bridal team at Glamorous by Juanita where I started was my first professional network and their support has been instrumental in my growth. Since I’ve been in Atlanta, I’ve networked through Lipstick Biddies, a podcast and professional network of artists founded and ran by the uber talented Rachel Rose. I’ve worked on shoots with creatives like photographer Timothy Bowser and the modeling group Sophic on editorial shoots. I’m grateful for the kindness I’ve been shown, especially being new to the area, and how helpful everyone has been.
